Thanks. Getting better.

Thanks, everyone, for your advice on the heel thing. Its better today but I’m still hobbling a bit. I still have the flinch reaction when I start to feel the pain. I don’t see myself running on it tomorrow but thankfully its a rest day. I’m hoping to see some improvement tomorrow as well.

Today I skipped the crosstraining and went to the movies with my son instead. We saw “The March of the Penguins”. Its a National Geographic documentary on Emperor Penguins in Antarctica, and their migration to the breeding grounds. Lots of penguin marching and penguin chicks and stuff. Kinda cool actually. Its rated G but, if you have sensitive little ones, be aware that there are some scenes of “natural selection” involving predators and the harsh -50F temperatures, which might make for some sad faces.

Movie popcorn is poison.

I don’t know if I mentioned it but my computer blew up when I got back from vacation. The power supply fried itself when I turned it on. Its an HP so its a PITA to find the right replacement. I’ve been having to borrow my wife’s computer so I don’t get to post or comment as much as I usually do. A new power supply is arriving tomorrow I think, so I should be good to go after that.

Without my computer, I can’t put my running data into my spreadsheet so I have no idea what my shoe mileage is or weekly mileage or anything. Its kind of annoying not knowing where I stand on all that.

I lost a toenail. It had been losening for a few weeks and finally came off tonight. On my right foot. Its the little-piggy-that-had-none. After the New Haven 20K, the-little-piggy-that-had-roast-beef had a blister under the nail which I ended up draining the next day. Now I noticed the little-piggy-that-stayed-home has a similar blister looking thing. What the heck is going on with the toes? Did the shoes shrink when they got wet in the rain? I may have to break out another fresh pair of Muzuno’s. I was hoping to hold off longer on that.

Maybe its time for the racing flats.

I’ve been trying to maintain good ChiRunning form, but I still notice in every race picture, I have a dreadful heel strike. I can argue that the New Haven shots were going downhill, which is hard for me to do without heel striking. And the finish line shots will show a tired runner letting his form falter. But that all seems like alot of rationalization.

I think I need to get out and do a video check. Maybe head to the track or something and run in front of the camera with what “feels” like the normal form I run with, and then with what feels like the “best” form possible. Maybe its all started slipping. My shoes aren’t wearing on the heels but something is definately wrong.

Hope you all had a good weekend. There were alot of great races this weekend in the RBF.

I’ve been wanting to see that one! So far my kiddos aren’t very interested. I think Dawn and I need to go see it. Soon.

I wore Asics running socks for the first time for the half and they worked excellent. The socks are marked for each foot, with padded toe and heel area, wicking fiber, and have some support in the arch area.

Oooooh, I’ve been wanting to see that movie. Sounds like I’ll have to pack the tissues.

As for the toenail, when I was running more in high school, I had one particular toenail that would just keep falling off and growing back again. Very gross, but what can you do?

Gosh, I go away for the weekend and you hurt yourself! And you lose a toenail! I’m having the same trouble maintaining any form on these longer runs. It’s all I can do to make it through:)

OMG, you will be FINE if you don’t track your shoe mileage for a week! Imagine what we all look like to any outsiders that stumble across the blogs….

Sorry about the little piggies! It’s all part of being in the running clan. A friend of mine once gave me a high five and called me his “black toe sister” when he saw my nails. Now…I just paint them! Oh…definitely go for the racing flats…yeah, yeah!!

I bet none of those penguins had toenail problems. What shoes do they wear?

I lost a toenail a while back and have been using good old cowboy chrome (duct tape) to keep it from rubbing itself raw when I run!

I’m missing the nail on “this piggie stayed home”.

And was I the only one who laughed in the Penguin movie when it comes time to introduce the ravenous villian, and a cute sea lion swims up, playfully, and flashes a mouth full of teeth?

Yikes - hope your heel is feeling better. It seems that a number of folks I know are running injured. Rest, y’all! And stretch. And treat yourself to a nice massage or two. You deserve it.
