4 miles and feeling better

Thanks for all the helpful advice on how to handle my newly screwed up training plan. You know I wouldn’t think of doing this if I wasn’t going to meet a totally cool group of people. :)

I had 4 miles in light misty rain tonight. 8:58 pace. My right hip has that funny tight feeling in the joint, like it wants to pop or something, but it didn’t bother me while running. It was really humid and it just seemed to sap the energy right out of me. I hope its not like that on this coming race day, but I’m thinking that since New Haven is close to the ocean, I can depend on a certain amount of humidity. Let’s all pray for cold rain then.

This was my first run since the 15 last Saturday and after two days of rest, I’m still feeling a little thick-legged. I think this is telling me that I’m really not going to be able to run my 16 miles on Saturday and then race on Monday. Either I run the 16, and just run the 20K (long run pace), or skip the 16 and race the 20. As I really want to race, I decided I’m going to skip the 16, and call the race my long run. I might do a light, slow, easy run on Saturday (3 or 5 miles?) just to stretch and move after riding in the car for 10 hours on Friday.

And if I run fast enough at the race, I’ll get the best snacks at the end of the race. You do realize that the all the good stuff goes fast right? Oh, yes its true. If you get there early, they have giant blocks of seedless watermelon, and chewy chocolate chip cookies as big as phonebooks, and lemonade frosties in quart size. By the end? We’re talking Saltines and dirty water. Its not pretty. One time, I only got to lick the inside of a discarded frostie cup. :(

Run hard, before the food is gone. (I think I want that on a T-shirt)

Flaming Buttheads unite! So is that like your face is a butt and your hair is flames that are continually licking and swirling around your head? Thats what I’m imagining.

Hilarious Jon. Maybe all we 5K people will eat it all before you 20K people get there…!!

Sorry to hear about the hip…sounds very similar to what I was (am?) experiencing. And as far as the weather goes, looks like rain might be out of the question. But, it should be nice and cool at the start with overnight lows in the 50s (predicted). Sounds like good racing weather!

I hate it when the fast runners eat all the good stuff and the later finishers get the crumbs. Once I came in so late that all I had was the salty residue at the bottom of the tray that held pretzels - licked it off my fingers. :P

LOLOLOL. Saltines and dirty water. Love it.

You know…I very rarely enjoy the post-race food…water, sure…but the snacks…I always seem to forget about them…maybe it’s because I come with my own bag of chips.

Hmmm, race goal may just have changed to “Get to the post-race lard bar before Jon”… ;)

The sound runs pretty cold most of the year, so the humidity’s not quite the factor you would think.

I swear if you eat the last chewy chocolate chip cookie before I get to the party I’m going to let the air out of your tires.
Your short 3-5 mile run on Saturday sounds like the best plan. I would have recommended it but I was counting on beating you to the snack bar.

That would be a great shirt to wear during a race! But you have to include pictures of snacks under the words.
