Meme-o-rama
I got tagged for these quite a while ago by Jank and Jack, so I’ve combined them here.
What is your favorite long run pace? I think it has been about 9:15 in the past, but I’m trying to slow it down to 9:40 or slower.
What is your favorite (or typical) pre-run meal? That depends. On race day, I have my bran buds with raisins, sunflower seeds, banana, and flax seed meal about 3 hours before the race. Then a bagel two hours before racing, and then a banana or toast with strawberry/rhubarb jam an hour ahead. On long run days, I can get away with just the cereal and stuff at least an hour ahead.
What was the distance of your first ever, official race? 5K
Do you typically run in groups or run alone? Alone, although I did run with someone recently.
Name one or two NEW running experiences (occurring within the past year),
that you have grown the most from. Trail running and Chi Running! Trails built up my stamina like I could not believe and Chi Running is correctnig my form to help me with endurance and preventing injuries.
What is your least favorite structure to run on/over? Potholes and dog poop.
What are you training for now? The Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon!
If you are raising money for a cause, what is it and why is that cause important to you? Not raising any money yet. I have this fear that I will get all these donations and then get injured and not do the run, and then people will feel like they donated for nothing.
What is the furthest distance you?ve run in your training and what is the furthest distance you will run before your event? I think it was just 12 miles in training, but I will do a 20 miler before the marathon.
What is your favorite flavor of gu? (or other sports gel) I think I can handle strawberry/banana power gels the best.
How many days a week do you run? Right now I’m running 4 days a week, with a crosstraining day added. When I did the intermediate 5K plan, I was running 5 days with speed training, and it really, really hurt. Alot.
Are you injured in any way right now? if so,what are you doing about it? My shins whine frequently, and all I can do is stretch, ice occassionally, and complain.
What is one item of running clothing/gear (shoes don?t count) you can?t run without? My shirt. I’ve wanted to try doing the shirtless run when the weather got hot, but white, pasty skin is just dreadful to see on a jiggly body like mine. Although, it might scare the damn dogs away.
Do you have a talisman you are planning on taking to your event? if so, tell us! Nope, no lucky charms or anything like that. Does the Forerunner count?
Share one thing about yourself we don?t know. I once caught a fish this big.

I didn’t know you were training for a marathon - very cool. Re eating - I’m still figuring out what works for me. Usually, I only have a piece of toast with a bit of jelly, and water. But I’m wondering if I would have more energy if I ate a banana or some cereal as well.

That is one crazy fish! In what waters was that thing caught? Did you eat it? Did it taste good? Speaking of fish…that is what my trainer recommends that I eat before I race…fish. Lots of melon the night before to hydrate and fish the morning of the race. He says, “then you’re running clean.” It’s worked for me so far.

Jon, is that you in the picture holding the BIG fish?
Shin problems. I read something about them in RW while sitting on the beach averting that pasty look. Let’s see here …. yes. Here it is. Uh, Jon. Get your bike out. It says: Rest, rest, rest. Cross train and start back running short distances and cross train between runs. Ice and stretch. Now what part of the word rest do you not understand? Sorry :(

Oh my gosh, that’s a huge fish! Did you mount it on your wall?

In the picture you really do look like Shaggy from Scooby Doo (my favorite cartoon by the way). At least the dog ran with Shaggy and not after him;)
I can’t wait to see if you can hold the 9:39 pace for the marathon, that is my goal as well. Hope my old bones are up to it this time.

I’ve been reading the Chi Running book too, and it really does improve speed with alot less pain. I just can’t seem to remember to do it all of the time.
August 9th, 2005 12:50
hey, could you pass some of that strawberry/rhubarb jam this way?

That’s a huge fish!
Strange, when I was tagged with the meme I only had to answer the last set of questions. Are these two separate memes?

What a catch! ;)

If I ate all that flax and bran before a run I would be in some serious trouble!
