Healthy enough to drive.
I had a physical at work this week. We need to pass to be able to drive the electric carriers in the plant. Fun little vehicles that are used for moving people and cargo around. But for safety reasons, they don’t want you driving if you have trouble seeing or hearing, or have issues with balance. Don’t want someone getting hurt.
Had the usual tests, vision, hearing, pee in a cup. The fun part was when she took my blood pressure and pulse. 108/62, and 54! I’ve never had it below 60 before, especially during the day and sitting in the doctor’s office. Very cool. I still need to get my cholesterol checked. Its been a while since I did that. In fact, I don’t think I’ve had it checked since I lost all that weight.
This week I am really paying the price for that too-fast long run last Saturday. Tuesday’s 3 miles and yesterday’s 5 were just awful. I was really dragging, and my legs felt like lead. My shins are achey but at least they aren’t outright painful.
My feet hurt too. Not in any one spot, just an all over ache. My ankles are kinda the same. I think at some point I need a soak in a hot bath or something. Although, the thought of sitting in hot water right now is dreadful, even though yesterday was nice and cool.
This week is a step-back week so the mileage is lower and the long run is only 7 miles. I’ll be needing it this week. And for Saturday I am definately going to run slow. Running those long runs too fast requires too much recovery time, and I’m already into the midweek mileage when my legs still need to recover. Slow. That’s what I’m doing. Definately.
I’ve been thinking about getting a pair of racing flats again. I had wanted some before but didn’t want to lay down more cash for another pair of shoes, especially since I have a brand new pair of Mizuno’s still in the box. But I really want a pair. Its so hard to hit midfoot with that big raised heel on my running shoes.
Hope everyone is having a good week.

Sounds like this is a good week to step back on the mileage and give your body a little break.
You should organize a Fear Factor style competition at work using the electric cars - smashing through walls, flipping over, driving into lakes!

Nice heart rate/blood pressure!
Good luck keeping the pace down on Saturday. It does sound like your body needs this easy week.
Oh, was peeing in the cup the actual test? :-)

Sounds like your going to be able to control your pace with ease this weedend. (Should have thought ahead and put lemonade in the cup!)

That sounds about normal for hard training marathon training… :) If you don’t already, read Leilani’s blog, linked off of Alison’s site. She’s feeling the same way right about now. My prediction is that it will all be good, especially after you take it easy this weekend. Rest up, eat enough healthy food, and hydrate!

Is it a hot bath or an ice bath you need? Do take it easy. You don’t want to mess up those shins during your training:) And yeah, get those new shoes. You deserve it!

Great job on the physical. Wish my recent one was that good. My blood pressure sucks. Oh well… :-)

It always amazes me, reading your posts, that you have trouble running slow enough - my challenge is completely the opposite, I try to run fast enough so senior citizen would not pass me walking :D Have a great weekend Jon, Tracy XOX

108/62, and 54? I thought you said you were stressed at work!
Obviously, someone needs to drop another project on you…

Treat yourself to the running flats. You’ll be amazed by the difference they make. Since I started wearing mine I’ve found that my feet, shins, knees (actually my entire leg) have been far less sore. They’re also going to help you achieve the form you’re looking for. Spend the money…you won’t regret it!

You can find some really good compromises - look for performance trainers such as the Saucony Tangents, or even some Asics Lantreths. Much lighter than most, still cushioned enough that you can do long runs in them without worrying about it, but not so cushioned that you can’t feel your form differences.

Heh, I just have to add to Richard’s comment. I got a new pair of Saucony Tangents - Racing flats and I love them. Not just cause they are pink but cause they are so light and yet my feet still felt cushioned enough. I did about 12k total in them tonight and while I wasn’t “Wicked fast” (that’s on the bottom of the runner) I was faster than usual…lol. :-)
