Frantic
Been running around like a lunatic for the past few days. Lots of stuff at work has me doing 12 hour shifts this week. The past couple nights I’ve been living on 4 hours of restless sleep. I keep waking up as I doze off, then all kinds of crap comes into my head and I can’t get back to sleep again. As I’m typing this, the eyelids are drooping. Needless to say, it puts me a little on edge. Let me apologize right now, if any comments I make are over the top.
Long days at work and late nights, trying to get my life in shape. Not an easy task when your life has been sitting on the couch for quite a while, even when you have been out running on the weekends.
I got my 5 mile long run in on Saturday. Tried real hard to keep to my targeted pace, but totally blew it again. On the way back I just said screw it, and ran how I felt like running. 9:00 pace. A short term enjoyment, but ultimately you will pay for doing your long runs too fast. The good news is that the mileage will be a self-limiting influence for future runs. 9 miles next weekend. 3 miles tonight.
My wife and I spent most of the weekend sorting through boxes of stuff in the basement to bring to the church rummage sale. Got rid of alot of old furniture. I’m not sure where all of it was hiding. We had a giant orange recliner down there that I had completely forgotton about. My wife’s friend also took several boxes of stuff and a table. Still much more to get rid of but I’m running out of free time to do it this week.
What else? Oh yeah, I’m studying for the patent bar (yes, again). Not that I took it before, but I mean that I started studying again. Signed up for a course and everything. Damn expensive, and I ended up putting it on credit, which I HATE. It may take a few payments to pay it off fully, hopefully finance changes won’t be too much. But if the course gets me through the bar, then I’ll be happy.
So, work is very busy, I’m trying to study for a humongous exam, emptying my house of all the junk that accumulated in it, and somewhere in there training for a marathon. I would consider myself an overachiever, if I actually achieved all these things. Until then, I’m just overly ambitious. :)
Hope you all are well.

Wow, Jon, you *are* busy! Hang in there…and try to get a little sleep, will ya?! I don’t need any crazy, bizarro comments from a sleep-deprived lunatic on my blog :-)

Jon, it sounds like a truly crazy time for you. Hope you can figure out a way to sleep, and to use your runs for clearing out the “crud.” In the meantime, we are here for you to vent to any time!

Hi Jon, it’s good to keep the basement in order. That’s where stuff go to die, I try to stay away from mine but lately it’s the only cool place in the house.

Good luck with the patent bar. Sounds like you’ve got a lot of work in front of you.

Buck up, camper. Things will get better.
The clearing clutter makes me laugh - I swear that my wife and I seriously considered just setting fire to the house and walking away while packing for the last move. Sheesh.
And what’s life if you’re not running with your hair on fire?

Don’t you wish you could put stress out in the rummage sale?
July 12th, 2005 16:34
How do you completely forget owning a giant orange recliner?

Patent bar? Tell me more!

I am also curious about this patent law thing. Not sure how much you want to explore this on the blog-but you are a different kind of lawyer and are thinking of moving over to patents? Do I have that right? Anyway, you need sleep. I am so sorry things are crazy. Are you happy though? And don’t worry about the long run pace this week! You are right, you will probably slow down when the runs get longer. If the only thing slipping through the cracks in your life is you are running too fast you are doing stupendous :)

Good luck with the study Jon - I think your amazing that your accomplishing so many things at the very same time whilst feeling stressed about other issues!
I so wish we had basements here - it would mean less clutter in the house. Although, because we don’t have them I would be scared to go into a basement as - according to all the movies I have seen - the boogey man lives in them!

Good luck with the studying, you can do it, we believe in you! Don’t get frustrated with the marathon training, you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish under stress - actually that is part of marathon training! A marathon is 60% a mind workout!

What is a patent bar - can’t find an explanation from my English - Finnish dictionnary…? Sounds ambitious, however - good luck with studies, you are my hero. I can’t get myself to clean up the basement on a good day, not to mention in the middle of work chaos, wow!

It sounds like you are really going through the wringer right now. Maybe one good junk cleaning will lead to one great run and things will seem better. I hope it calms down for you….thinking about you.

Me too, what IS a patent bar? Take it easy eh!

And I thought my life was busy! Wow! Good luck studying for the exam. Maybe you could make study note cards, and study and run at the same time in order to save time! :)
