Some simple ones for Chocolate Friday
A somewhat lame Chocolate Friday today, but I wanted to add to some details from the other week.
First, Sarah mentioned the Ritter Joghurt bar. I was in World Market and found this little tiny version of it.
This bar has milk chocolate on the outside and then a middle white layer (yogurt?) on the inside. My German is a little rusty, so I’m not sure what is exactly in this bar. But, I really like the taste (the yogurt is a tart taste inside the sweet chocolate) and the tiny bar is good for folks who want to try more than one flavor but don’t want to open a large bar. I’m not sure why anyone would not want to open a large bar, but I suppose they have their reasons. (Somehow when I read the label I read “Jog Hurt”. Pain on the brain. :) )
Beth asked me via email about Ferrero Rocher chocolates.
Made by the same fine people that make Nutella and Tic Tacs. Not sure how that combo came about but you know it has to do with corporate mergers and such.
The Ferrero Rocher chocolates are a hazelnut covered truffle, with a whole hazelnut inside.
The inside is filled with a smooth hazelnut chocolate cream, much like (you guessed it) Nutella.
And looking at the whole piece, you are probably saying “Hey! That damn chocolate looks terrible!” And you would be right. It has a hazy, white surface color. Someone has let this box get too warm (happens in the summertime) and it has produced “fat bloom” on the chocolate. Cocoa butter has melted and recrystallized in an unstable form that appears as a white surface layer. Still tastes fine, but looks dreadful.
And lastly, I’m revisiting Nutella because Beverly had asked about this mini, single serving Nutella pack that I picked up at World Market as well.
Just peel off the top and you have instant Nutella, but not so much that you eat 1000 calories in one sitting. Self limiting. Just in case you didn’t want to risk having an entire jar in the house. :) It comes with little plastic spoons for scooping some out onto a piece of bread or, my favorite, vanilla wafers.
So that’s it for this Friday. I hope to have some more good stuff next week. I’d like to have a post with some good pics of tempering, but that may need to be two weeks out.

Mmmm…now I want my own mini Ritter Sport! Glad you enjoyed it; I, too, like the tartness of the yogurt (you were right!) paired with the sweetness of the milk chocolate.

I haven’t found a hazelnut-chocolate combination I don’t like yet. LOVE FR - they show up in my Christmas stocking because Santa loves me :)

I really like those FR candies - but I have to eat them in a very specific way: eat off all of the nutty/chocolate shell, open up the little wafer globe and eat out the hazlenut, then eat the rest. Eaten all together just doesn’t taste as good! It’s the same with Kit Kats.

Mmmm… Nutella….
July 8th, 2005 10:42
Why in the heck would anyone WANT to put a limit on the amount of Nutella they ate?!?!?!?!
;)

FR always reminds me of Christmas and that commercial they have for them, at the ambassadors party, it has a real 80’s feel to it and makes me giggle ever time

FR is a yummy treat, they have to be the right temp though. If they get too hot they are too mushy. I still eat them mushy, but I prefer a bit more solid.

Oh yeah, thanks for the Ritter Sport tip. Will be stopping at World Market on the way home.

Thanks for chocolate Fridays. I like the little packets of Nutella at World Market, they’re just big enough for my lunch bag.

I get a little fat bloom here and there. Mostly on my thighs. I suspected it came from chocolate. Thanks for clearing that up.

AGHH Jon, I can’t stand it anymore. I can’t read your site while I’m on a diet. But I can’t give up the diet or your site. Dammit man, now I have to go and run another three miles to make up for what I’m about to do…

What’s this about New Haven? We’re counting on you Jon…..come on: regroup! And what do you know about Chick Chocolates other than the name is too…too….something?

Oh I love Ferrero rocher so much. I have to buy them in the little 3 packs or I eat them all. Same with the nutella. I tried the little single serve 20 gr packages similiar to your photo but they came in a bag of 15 and I ate every one of them!

Ok, I’m feeling a little in the dark here, but I have no idea what Nutella is. I’ve only heard it mentioned on running blogs. Hmmmm, I’m going to have to hit up Google now…

The N word again … sigh.
I have to look for those mini-packs.
Hush up, Mark.

Jon, your right about the shoes. Mine are getting pretty worn out in the inside. I have another two weeks off so will need to update before I start again I think. I get a bit lazy about it because I have to drive quite a way to a speciality shop because I have such humungous feet!!
ps: I looked EVERYWHERE for that ritter sports german chocolate and couldn’t find it, but my husband is taking me away next weekend to a town here called Handhorf and it’s german focused. I am looking forward to trying it.

Hmmm I know all of these, makes me want to go down to the supermarket and get some.

Yeah, the jogurt ones are pretty good, but the dark chocolate marzipan variety is where it’s AT, my friend. :)

Oooh, I love Nutella. I have a big jar at home and another one at work, in one of my file drawers. Every once in a while, I’ll take a spoon and scoop up a big dollop and nibble it while I’m writing. Bliss.
