Running? Oh yeah, that.

I ran this week. I ran Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. 3 miles each. Pffttp. Nothing overly spectacular. Wednesday I ran 1 mile barefoot at the park (isn’t that a movie?). I did it as the middle mile in my 3 mile run again.

I can’t remember the times now but they were 8:40 - 8:50, something like that. A little faster than I should be going. That’s not so bad but the long run must be at the right pace. Much more critical there. I think. I don’t know. I make this stuff up.

I wore some moleskin (Tracy, tell your Dad to avert his eyes) on my big toe to keep that blister away. Well, the moleskin lasted about half a mile. The ground was very wet from the big storm we had earlier so that didn’t help either. I didn’t get a blister though, which was the real goal. I need to work on my form and the blisters are stopping that.

I also want to get my racing flats soon. When I took the Chi Running class we had talked about getting some, but Dreyer said to hold off until your form was more solid and ease into them because if your feet are used to support, dropping them into flats can be an abrupt change. I guess it depends on the feet. I think I’m ready now. I just need money. I need to sell something. Scuba gear? Does anyone want to buy a nice set of scuba regs? I think I need to visit Ebay this weekend and get some stuff going.

7 mile long run this weekend. The weather has cooled down to the 80’s today so I’m hoping it will be nice this weekend too. The lawnmower is working great now, so I need to get the lawn mowed. I fixed the air conditioner and didn’t electrocute myself again. It turned out that all those letters that I mailed with the wrong postage, actually had the right postage. Good thing for me that I could add correctly before I mailed them, even if afterwards my brain turned to pudding. And the ants are so very, very dead. :)

I can’t believe its July already. Somebody stole half the year.

And I got tagged for my 6 favorite songs from AB (who is doing another tri this weekend. Go AB!!). Here they are:

  • “American Pie” by Don McLean - and not that stupid crappy version done by Madonna who is a total freak. And yes, I do know all the words by heart (and I’m putting that on my resume)
  • “Missing You” by John Waite - I don’t know why I always liked this song. Maybe because I never understood whether he missed her or not. Maybe that’s the point.
  • “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” by Toby Keith. Hey, the totally guy rocks and I needed something country in here. This is one of his best for me.
  • “All Star” by Smash Mouth - Except for the fact that it was in Shrek. Somehow it made it less appealing, even though I like the movie.
  • “I’m Movin’ On” by Rascal Flatts
    - Actually, most of their stuff I really like, but this is one that I particularly liked.
  • “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson - yeah, she’s one of those dime-a-dozen female singers that have come out of the record mill like so many in the past 5 years, but I do like the song. Actually, heard it was written for Avril Lavign, who I do think is very talented.
  • Ok, that’s it. Time to pass it on to someone else, play if you want, skip it if you don’t like lists, not everyone likes to do this. Here ya go:
VJ - because I know she listens to tunes, maybe scooter tunes!
Dianna - who is flying across the country daily to meet and run with RBF’ers.
Warren - who ran a great 10K PR today!
Lara - who is preparing for the Boilermaker (wish I could go to watch)
BD - if he can just stay awake long enough to type at the computer. Hang in there, BD. :)

Good running there, Jon. Have fun with the 7 today. And I have a feeling December is right around the corner.

I just got the Chi Running book - been re-working my form as a result and immediately noticed a big improvement on my PELs and how I feel afterwards. I wonder if Mr Dreyer ever comes to Europe.

Oh, and great Canada chocolate post btw. I wonder if the Smarties/ M&M thing has anything to do with UK manufacturers. Smarties has been popular here for millenia - they come (or used to come, it’s been years since I bought any) in a cardboard tube with a little plastic stopper that had a single letter on it. I loved them as a kid and part of that love was about the cardboard tube with the letter at the end. . .

M&Ms arrived in the 80s but they never really took off (I think they smell like vomit).

hi! i wouldn’t stress about your short run pace. whatever your sheet says you are supposed to be doing, what you are running is not in the “asburd” range so i (who also don’t really know!) think that sounds fine to me! honestly, sometimes i get so fed up with pacing, etc., i just have to ignore it! happy trails this weekend. i hope there are no weather catosrophes involving the fam.

Oh, definitely check out eBay! People will buy anything on that site!

Cool music list! I’m going to have to look up some of those songs. I’m not always into blog memes, but this is a great way to discover new music. Thanks for participating and passing it on!!

Good tunes. PS - thanks to your last write up I went out and bought one of those maple flavored coffee crisps. However I forgot all about it and its still in my jacket pocket. Oh well to late to eat it now or is it????

I was very close to including American Pie. It always makes me think of Stevie Ray Vaughn, whose death really affected me. It truly is a great song.

Hey! I admire the too fast thing! Given that I’m trying to pick up my speed I think it’s great that you’re thinking you have to slow things down. Is there a particular running flat that you are coveting? I’ve been thinking I should probably invest in a pair myself. Hope you enjoy your long run.

Jon, what does it mean when you say you have been tagged. Someone once said I was tagged for a list or something and it was my turn but I don’t know what they meant?

Barefoot running is supposed to be so good for the calves…I should try it one day but knowing me I will step in something squishy that doesn’t smell nice!
