Just floating now

Thanks for all the comments on Sunday’s post. Trying to have more rational behavior in the future. :D

Monday I did my weight workout and it went just great. I went back to bench presses again and this time there was no burning at all in the right shoulder. It was only 80 pounds (about half what I used to do), but its a start and I’m glad that shoulder is finally showing signs of serious improvement. I’m not sure what I did to it, maybe it really was the mouse. And that bothers me because while I was doing dumbell work, my left shoulder felt a little weak. I hope I’m not running into the same problem over there now. Maybe I need to spend less time on the computer.

Still not doing the ab work because of my ribs. I tried a situp and knew right away it was not going to happen. I found that running aggrevates the pain, as does the tricep workout. That one is done sitting on a bench, and you pull down on a cable. I think it toques my upper body and the abs tighten to hold it all steady, which pulls on my ribs. Doesn’t hurt enough to stop, just hurts.

Yesterday I ran 3 miles outside again near the gym. Not so many dead animals this time. We also had alot of rain recently (which is a true statement for most of the summer in Michigan) and I think it washed alot of the stinkies away. It was pretty hot, but not like before, and there a was a nice breeze going. I left the water in my truck and just ran. 24.59, 3.0 miles. I was happy with the pace. There’s a long hill in the middle which makes for a decent workout too.

Not sure what the plan is today. Probably 3 miles again. Marathon training starts next week and for a few weeks it starts out with 3 miiles for Tues, Wed, Thurs, so I’m trying to start into that pattern early. Unfortunately, I may not be able to get a long run in this weekend. Got alot to do and I have a wedding to go to as well. Busy, busy, busy.

Happy humpday! We’re halfway there. :)

If the mouse is causing shoulder problems, look into a track ball. I have been using one for many years and they are less of a strain on our shoulder, arm, etc as your hand rest on it rather than clutching. Also it remains stationary as opposed to a mouse. Also look at the positioning on your desk. When mousing or using a track ball your arm should not be extended it should be at your side - 45 degree angle. Been there, spent many weeks in physio due to an “over mousing” issue. I lost almost all the range of movement in my right shoulder but thankfully recovered about 95% of it by making these changes and doing the physio.

Sorry for the long comment. :-)

Will there be pictures of women standing on your manly abs at this wedding?

are you making truffles for the wedding? too much mouse does cause shoulder pain. I had to change to a track ball and get my chair and keyboards ajusted properly. I also switched to using my other arm while the other healed.

I moved the mouse to my left hand side … it was the hardest thing to get used too … I couldn’t coordinate my brain/hand/mouse at all. I got so frustrated I just reached over with my right hand to help steer!

Hang in there. I am using my runs to make mental lists of everything I need to do. Not exactly relaxing…but it helps!

I switched to mousing with my left hand when I had 2 minor wrist surgeries in one year. I adjusted pretty quick and still mouse left, much to the confusion of friends who sit down at my computer at home….

I loved your advice about doing some weights and I am sure I can notice some definition already!

Jon - Take it easy on the weights while you recover (though easier said than done, I know). Hey, good pace on the three-mile run! Doesn’t it feel great just to stretch one’s legs?!

I love going to weddings. I hate planning my own.

Wow, you’re definitely not going to be bored any time soon! Don’t forget to keep a little bit of each day to download a little - it’ll be nice to help you jump into that marathon training with a little peace of mind. So excited to hear how it goes!!!

I too ended up moving the mouse to my left hand. I was diagnosed with tennis elbow and have found it not TOO difficult. I’ve been a left mouser now for about 7 months and has REALLY helped my right arm!

What marathon are you training for? and when is it? Do you work on the premise of an 18-week program?

    Is there any chocolate involved?

And how is your son recovering? And more particular, your wife?

Hey Jon. That’s really cool you can start lifting again. I hope the shoulders stay well behaved. Take it easy up north.
