Oh, damn that rib. Yikes. It might take a while to heal. And I know what you mean about self-control.

My chiropractor said 6 to 8 weeks for the pain to go away and maybe longer to heal I too have one or more bruised ribs from my car accident but they don't mind my abs contracting, they hate it when I sneeze or cough hard though!

Interesting...I have no idea how long bruised ribs hurt. The good news I think most of us would forgo sit-ups over running if one had to be given up :) Still sounds painful though...

RYN: LOL Jon it is not weird at all, I looked up your Dexter Ann Arbor Run just so I could see how gorgeous and "American" the scenery is.

I missed the chocolate cake post...your description was hilarious.

Hope the soreness is getting better, I noticed today that my calf is feeling much better - might be running again sooner than I think =)

For some reason, I read, "My son caught his first fish" as "My son caught fire". I don't know where that came from, but I'm so glad it's not true!

And mmmmm, s'mores. If it wasn't raining and bloody hot outside, I'd break out the fire pit and make some chocolatey, marshmallow goodness. Fat be damned! I need my s'mores!

It sounds like you are battling soreness on many levels. Take it easy as you begin your marathon training...I know you will. Eating good healthy food will help (I say this so my own brain kicks in gear and listens!)

Ouch on the rib. I don't know how long a bruised one takes but a friend of mine can tell you all about broken ones. She was kicked by a horse and had 2 broken ribs and a torn quad. She tried to play our softball game the day after it happened and needless to say, the twisting motion of batting was not good. She's been out for over 6 weeks now. And is still in lots of pain.

I'd give it time to heal and then get back with the abs. Plus, with most exercises you can trick your body into using your abs as stabilizers, without them wanting to hurt your ribs.
