The strap and those photos

I guess people agree and I do too that I need to bring the cho-pat strap with me to the race on Sunday. Thanks for you input everyone.

Jank had a good idea to wear the strap on the longer run, which I actually tried out last night on my 30 minute tempo run. Since this was a faster run, I was watching the strap carefully to see how it would hold up at speeds closer to race conditions. I had worn it on my 7 mile long run, but its alot slower and I don’t think it gets jossled the way it will in the race.

I ran it at the county farm park in Ann Arbor which has a 1.4 mile loop on trails and stuff. Nothing too hilly so I didn’t hurt myself, but enough to get the heart pumping for certain. I started out at a 9:00 pace and picked it up to 8:00 and then up to 7:00, followed by a drop down to around 9:00 again. It was hard to really keep an even pace on the trails but I did my best. The small downhills kinda ended up getting a little fast. ;)

The strap seemed to do pretty good, and I never even felt a twinge from my ITB. The last half mile or so it had slipped and was starting to hit my kneecap though. I think 3 miles (+ .1?) is going to be the limit of how it will do. So, I will wear it for the race, hope for the best, but rip the damn thing off if it starts giving me trouble. Thanks to everyone for your advice and suggestions.

And about those photos on the far right column. Those are somebody else’s. They came with the new template and I haven’t figured out how to change them to something else (maybe random chocolate pics?). It reminds me of a guy I knew in college that bought some small picture frames and he liked the pictures of the “sample people” in them so much, that left them in the frames! I’m such a phoney.

Uh, thanks, I guess. I’d actually meant to try running easy without and see if the twinge was still there. (I’m a believer in ditching corrective gear as soon as possible and letting the body strenghten itself, within reason).

But I’ll take credit wherever I can get it!

Here’s looking forward to Friday, and another race report from MI.

It’s so exciting! I can’t wait for this weekend, where I will lounge around, eating pounds of cherries, waiting for your race report. :)

goog luck with the strap during the race.

my sister used to do the frame/photo thing and actually created a whole back story about a cute guy in a frame she kept. they’d been dating for years and were planning on getting married soon…what a goofball.

Jon - go to the PRESENTATION menu item when you are logged in. Select THEME EDITOR from the ’submenu’. It should list your Theme Files and one of those files should contain the pictures so you can modify/delete as you like. Hopefully I have pointed you in the right direction - I’m still learning this stuff, too.

I think I missed what race you are running this weekend… good luck! Are you having ITB problems still? My husband used to have the worst problem with his ITB (couldn’t even walk up stairs without pain), then the massage therapist showed him how to use a tennis ball to relax the band, pre-run, and hasn’t had ITB problems since. Not sure if you have tried it or not…just thought i would mention it.

Hey Jon - good luck with the race this weekend. I can’t remember what race it is either, but this isn’t the ‘premiere’ race of the season for you is it? I overdid it last year on a ‘non-premiere’ race and it really screwed me up for Detroit which was, after the CRIM in August, the big race of the season. Not a huge failure - but I was way off my normal pace because I went too hard on a race that really wasn’t all that important in the ‘grand scheme’ but competitiveness got the better of me…… too early.

Good luck with your race. Now that I finally got off my butt and figured out what a cho-pat strap is (haven’t found it in Germany yet), I would also add that it sounds like it will help;)

Have a great race!!! I’m looking forward to reading about it. I aspire to be as fast as you.

As a side question, why do you have to run on the dreadmill so much?
