7 miles, back in the game

Thank you everyone for your kind words about last week. It means alot coming from folks so far away whom I’ve never even met in person. :)

Sunday I ran my seven mile long run and it was actually pretty good. I was expecting dead legs and sore shins and a sore back but everything went pretty good. 1:01:26, 8:46 pace, 7.01 miles.

It was kinda warm because it was so sunny but I drank along the way so no dehydration or something like that. I wore the cho-pat strap and it started out being a real annoyance so I inially took it off after about 100 yards. Then I got a little twinge and put it right back on, reminding myself how I totally screwed things up by running through that pain last year. I felt a few twinges during the run and stopped to stretch my ITB when it happened (thanks for the reminder, Richard).

Oh, and I passed another runner! The first time I actually passed one on this road. I had seen one fellow way ahead of me last winter but this time I actually passed one coming the other way. Heel striker, headphones, and crusing along pretty quickly. We exchanged the quick “palm up” wave that says “I’m too out of breath to talk and be nice”. Even though she didn’t get permission to run on my road, I’ll let her stay.

I felt pretty good after the run, except my leg had some twingy pain when I stopped but it went away quickly. No pain or soreness yesterday at all. Couldn’t believe it. A week off from running and after seven miles things still felt good. I’m liking this.

So this week is the official taper week. I have three miles today as usual. Trying to psych myself up for the race. Like always, I’m having huge doubts about how this is going to go. Last week fell apart for me and this week is going to be busy, busy, busy. Doesn’t it always go like this? Argh. Oh yeah, and I weighed myself for real today and found I gain three pounds. OK, chill on the beef jerky and chocolate for a while.

It’s that balance that RC talks about–glad things are looking better. It sounds like a great run, too!! Just think good thoughts all week.

I thought I lived far from civilization, but at least I see 2-5 fellow runners on my morning jog along the river…Your neighborhood must not be the place for a lonely female to run around - I mean I feel unsafe when running with no other people around. Even if I like the thought of complete solitude, just me and my thoughts :)

I realized on Sunday how much I love running alone-and how longs it’s been. I have to be up running by 6 on a weekend (and it won’t happen on a weekday unless I run in the dark) to make it happen. It’s sooo populated here…and to second Tracy’s comment I wouldn’t feel safe running some places by myself. Booooo bad people!!

I’m glad you got to squeeze in a run. And even though I’ve been running for awhile, I still find myself unconsciously holding in my breath when I pass other runners. Perhaps so I can hear them over my gasping if they so happen to want to hold a conversation?.. I know, I’m a weirdo.

Sorry you’re been having such a hard time lately. Hope things get better soon!

It’s always nice to see another person running, kind of reinforces that what you’re doing is worthwhile.

    Welcome back.

I NEVER, EVER see another runner. Maybe a rabbit, coyote but another runner would cause me to stop and ask him/her what planet they were from. You’ll be doing fine by the way!!

Do you live in an isolated area, is it too cold or just no other runners? I have only passed one or two in the 18 months I have been running. Actually they all passed me, but I saw them…that’s what I meant to say!

That’s weird, I hardly ever see other runners either. I see walkers, and bike riders, but mostly not runners. If I’m running around one of the lakes in my area, I’ve seen some runners, because there’s one main path around each body of water. But just general practice, out and about, not so much. I was driving to my mom’s house last night, and there was a runner coming towards me, on one of my routes I used when I was training for the half. I just sat staring at him until somebody honked at me! So, yeah, I guess it is a little unusual, even in health-conscious California, to randomly see people trucking along.

You got a wave from another runner?! Lucky you! Was she good looking? My city is full of runners all running about ignoring each other. I’m kind of over it now, but I had to speak to my priest about it back there.

Sorry about the sad news, Jon. On the positive side - when life’s hardest, these are the moments when we really live. Embrace them.

I typically run on a very busy trail, and see many, many people even as early as 6 am. Usually they are all flying by me as a chug along. If I do pass someone, it is cause for celebration! When I do get out on the road it is always nice to get away from all of the people.

Dianna was nice enough to share a truffle with me. It have to say, that was the best truffle I have ever had!!! It was heavenly! If I was in your family I would surely weigh 500 pounds! :)
