Right wing referrer spam

If you don’t know what referrer spam is, its when a site visits you with a spoofed link that makes it appear they were refered to your site from someplace else. Usually, the place they are refered from sells online drugs, or p@rn, or whatever. The idea is that if you publish your referal list (like listing it on your main page), they will 1) get more hits in Google for the link they are spreading, and 2) people will see it on your page and go there.

Its spam. I block alot of it all day long.

The latest referer spam coming though? Is from right wing groups and individuals with blogs and online journals praising their personal political views and berating and screaming about anything opposing them. Like having a one party system in this country would be so much more democratic, instead of the two party system of lying pots and kettles calling each other black.

I’m not sure if they intentionally hired someone to do the spamming or maybe they just found someone that said “Increase your site traffic 100% for just $9.95 a month!”, and it turned out they were referal spammers looking to make an extra buck. Its a shame. One guy even was complaining about having to deal with spam. Guess what, guy, you’re a spammer too, because I am sure the spammers aren’t just doing it on their own initiative.

One group that seems to generate alot of trash in my referer logs is these guys. Most of it is indirect because they use the addresses of the sites they host, and many of the IP addresses are spoofed. The domain names often trace back to them though.

I’m blocking all this crap, although, they don’t seem to repeat so I’m not sure its even worth the trouble. If you do publish your referals, I would recommend just deleting the referrer spam. Spammers never deserve the advertising they steal.

Ah yes I have been getting some weird spam comments since upgrading. Thankfully Mark is working on it. The comments look innocent and nice enough, like “Thanks for sharing, great info” but you discover it’s bad stuff (porn sites) when you read the email/url info. Now don’t go looking Jon, they’ve all been deleted ;-)

IS there a reason you spelled porn p@rn? Do you think PORN would get you a lot nauthy hits? People just typing in PORN might stumble across here looking for PORN but find a running blog instead of a PORN site?
    Is that why?

I did a lot of maintenance and other work on the domain yesterday but I’d really appreciate you forwarding the code you use to me so I can protect the other CR blogs, Jon. It would really help me since I don’t have time to check what other blogs are getting and many people do not know what to look for or do when they get this kind of thing.

    Thanks!

Jon, my comment has nothing to do with spam. I just wanted to wish you the best in your training and marathon. I don’t know how often I’ll be able to comment because our 2nd child is about to arrive. I’ll be thinking about you and reading whenever I can.

I could rant over spam and never stop. I don’t want to make my erection any harder and I’m not intrested in increasing my muscular size in a “natural way” either. Gah.
