I do run sometimes too.

Lots of running this week, and I really screwed up the schedule again. After the interval workout on Wednesday, I was supposed to do an easy 3 miles, but ofcourse I read the schedule wrong and did my 4 fast miles for Saturday instead. I ran it at a 7:50 average pace, but since I had just had the speed workout, it was really hard and I ended up just pounding the crap out of my legs.

I was happy to have my rest day on Friday. So for Saturday I ran my 3 easy miles at 8:50 pace and I was still sore. And then today, I ran my 6 miles on the trails but at a much slower pace that my long run pace (10:57). I had to base the pace and mileage on what the forerunner said because I was guessing what 6 miles was on the trail. Who knows.

Its been a long week for my legs and even the nice cold bath didn’t help for very long. Next week and the week after are more of the same, just add a mile to each long run. Then the last week before the race is a recovery week. I’m thinking I may need to cut the mileage on one of the days and exchange it for some crosstraining. Maybe Tuesday I will do that. My legs are just real sore, especially the shins. They just got worked hard during monday’s weight training, then the back to back speed work didn’t let them recover. Grrr. Wish it wasn’t so hard to heal fast.

Oh, and I picked up the electronic piano today. That room full of pianos? Was half empty! Boy those guys sell alot of pianos. And in case anyone is wondering, that piano is damn heavy. Its a two strong person lift job to carry it. I have my own dolly so that helped alot when I got home. Still needed my wife to help me get it out of the box and to move it into position once I had the stand assembled. Just beautiful to hear. Feels and sounds like a full size piano. I couldn’t be more pleased.

Oh, and Saturday was the District Pinewood Derby. My son won in his pack so we went to the Distric Derby too. His car did well, one first, 2 seconds, 1 third, and a fourth for the heats he was in. Not good enough to place overall, but he was happy with it how it turned out. The scouts got a special patch for going to the Derby, and ofcourse now he can play with his car instead of keeping it wrapped in papertowels in a plastic box. The kid is already planning his design for next year. Competitive little kid.

Congrat’s on the piano, I never play mine anymore, but had to pound out some tunes after I read your post.

I’m growing more skeptical of my forerunner on trails - I think that leaves play havoc with the GPS signal, which is not entirely out of the question. So my guess (based on the last couple months of tracking your runs) is that you went both further and faster than you think.

I second the notion of the forerunner not being perfect … all the time. I know, as you’ve probably seen also, that if running in an area that is heavily covered, e.g. trees, leaves, even densely concentrated tall buildings, that it temporarily might lose the GPS signal. It does seem to correct for this once its reestablished your position, but I bet Jank is right - I bet you’ve been running faster/further (I sure as hell hope that’s true for me!) That ABC post slayed me man - that is funny funny stuff!

I’m with Jank. My Forerunner is way off when I’m in a wooded area. Congrats to your son on the Derby results. So the competitive streak runs in the family?

I had to move across the street at one point and little ‘ol me had to hire the piano movers and pay them oodles of money to break out their dolly and wheel it across the street. Next time, I’m just gonna call you! :)
