A long week and here comes the snow.

I had a really awful time this week. My truck broke down in OH and I had pay highway prices for a new alternator because I didn’t know where there was a parts store to tow the truck to ($370). Then there was a burned out fuse that nobody knew about and so my battery drained out about 100 miles later after getting on the road again. At least I know how far I can drive an electric Ford Explorer. Ofcourse, the wipers don’t work well when that’s happening. Or the lights. Or the heater fan.

Grandma is not doing well at all, but I did get to see her for a little while. The nursing home is very nice and the folks there are good people. Its close to my aunt’s house so she can go there daily to see her.

My knee is doing great and so is my left foot. After several days of no running, they seem to have healed up. I do have a serious bruise or something on my left hip bone that hurts when I sit. Might be from driving in the truck too far without stopping, or from carrying my Dad’s old outboard motor down from the attic. Doesn’t seem to hurt when I run, so its a non-issue as far as that is concerned.

I wanted to get out running yesterday but I didn’t get back until 1 AM on Thursday night and had to get up by 5:30 again. I was just too tired by Friday night to do much of anything. Had to be at the muffler shop by 8 AM today to get the truck fixed (broken flange of some kind, another $80), and then get my wife’s car tire to the shop for a patch (tire ended being shredded inside, $12 for replacement road hazard warranty). Got a nice long 4 hour nap when I got home this again though. Still a little groggy, but you can’t sleep all day. I think.

They had predicted several inches of snow for both today and tomorrow in the race location, but I haven’t seen any sticking to the ground. Can’t believe we have snow in April. I think the ground may be too warm to get any accumulation, but its going to be a wet and windy race tomorrow either way. The good news is that hydration won’t be such an issue.

And I got my confirmation poscard in the mail this week for the Detroit Marathon! Whoohoo! Training starts June 20th (with a rest day as always :) ). I still would like to do the Dexter Ann Arbor run if I can. I feel like I could beat that 7:00 pace barrier this summer from how the training has been going.

Hope you’ve all had a good week. I got a chance yesterday to check in on a few blogs but not many. Is anyone else racing this weekend?

Yikes - that sucks about your truck  The wether here is pretty crappy here too. No races for me for a little while, but I’m doing a 5K walk in 2 weeks from now. Good luck in the race!

Yay! I hope you have a lot of fun tomorrow, and I can’t wait to hear all about it. I’m not racing much these days - I would love to find a quick 5k though! - but I just volunteered to *work* at two different races coming up soon, so hopefully that’s enough for my fix! - Mia

Hey, I found you at AB’s blog…sorry your truck broke down in my crappy neck o’ the woods. I hope things are going well now. Good Luck with all your ‘events’. I envy all of you that do that stuff…I have always loved to run…’long-story-short’ life took me over and I don’t do anything for ‘myself’ anymore…run an extra mile or so for me…

I’ll tell you right now not to expect much from your race, performance wise. Look at it for the purpose of tuning up. It’s been too wacky a week for you to expect too much and be disappointed. If you do well, you’ll exceed your expectations and that is always a good thing.

Why is it that bad things all happen at once? Maybe today will be your turn-around, but I’m with David. Setting today as a training run might take the pressure off–and then who knows! Either way, have fun today Jon. Run strong.

Sounds like you and the truck are having sympathy pains. Spend some money on yourself. Trucks are disposable.

goodness my friend, what a difficult week. I’m thinking about your Grandma and sending off some prayers. I’m also sending ‘nice truck, good truck, don’t break down’ thoughts out to your vehicle so that it will mind its E&As (Engine and Axles) for you.
