Keeping my strength up
Thankyou to everyone for the nice comments onmy race. I’m real happy with the results and trying to keep the placing in perspective. :)
Last night I had the full body weight workout. I’m so glad that I kept lifting while I had/have pneumonia, because then everything would have fallen apart. Its probably the only reason I kept my pace under 8:00 in the race on Saturday.
I was pretty pleased with how things went. I increased my number of reps on every station, some by not much, but it was moving up and that’s good. I’ve noticed the outside of my right arm, right below my deltoid, is really sore. Almost like a bruise or sore muscle. I feel it the most when I am doing fly’s. Maybe I’ve pulled something? Not sure.
The lungs are still a bit gunky, although no pain when I inhale deeply anymore. I still have a bit of a rattle down inside, which seems to come and go, but mostly appears when I lie down. I tried the sauna last night to see if it would help but it seemed to make it worse. Maybe the humidity was a problem. Today my sinuses are all congested, oh joy. How long has this cold/half-flu/pneumonia been hanging on? A month?
No workout tonight. There’s the Cub Scouts Blue and Gold banquet. I have 75 truffles in my truck to share at the potluck. I also made a rotini casserole for a main dish too. Food tonight!
I’ve been pretty pleased that my weight has stayed down depite my lack of running. Its hovering around 169 these days. And here’s something odd; if I wait 30 minutes more before eating lunch, I lose weight. I don’t eat any less that I normally do, but something about waiting kicks up my metabolism. Wierd, but handy.
Today at lunch time, George is going to take another shot at breaking my back. Actually, my back is doing really well the past few days. I do notice some muscle fatigue if I am standing or sitting for too long, but the pain in the bones is not there like it used to be. Much more comfortable to drive in the truck too.
Funniest thing in the supermarket last night. I was in there about 7:00 and all the valentine’s candy, card, and flower displays had been completey raveged. The funny thing was there were about a dozen 30-something guys digging through the leftovers, trying to find something to put together. I’m thinking, Dudes, its 7:00pm on Valentine’s Day and if you did have something first thing in the AM for your wife, you are so dead now that it really doesn’t matter. :D

mmm, truffles. So sad about those guys who waited until the last minute - I didn’t get street corner flowers this year. Glad your back is getting better.

We downplayed Valentine’s day this year. But I still found myself at the grocery store on the way home from work to pick up some flowers. (Tulips, not roses - one of the best trips we took pre-kids was through Holland while the tulips were blooming - acres and acres of every color! Insane to watch from the train to Amsterdam. So when I want to be sappy, I pick up tulips for my blushing bride)
Madhouse. Luckily, there were tons of fresh tulips with no-one pawing them.
Enjoy the banquet.

mmmm…the casserole sounds yummy!
we were in the store yesterday getting flowers for my mother in law and it was funny how picked over the cards and flowers were. we ended up getting tulips too.

Glad to hear you’ve rested up. I don’t want to have to call my old cross country coach and have him show up for an intervention! (wink). Also, thanks for your kind words on my blog. Meant a great deal to see all the wonderful comments.
I have a Chocolate Friday request: I made truffles last night and I have 2 techniques I need you to address. One is the general shape of the truffles. Even with a mellon baller, mine look lumpy. Secondly, I think I was sick the day they went over how to properly melt chocolate. I tried melting white chocolate to dip the truffles in and coat them, but the white chocolate and butter (and cream, I confess) just got rubbery. I gave up. Need advice on how to make it smooth for dipping truffles into to coat.

Glad to know I’m not the only scale obsessor! Glad to hear you getting better.

Wow, you’ve really got the metabolism thing down to an art form. Wish I could predict I’d lose weight by waiting thirty minutes to eat… Right now I’m just trying to eat breakfast immediately after I run– supposed to make me less hungry later if I get in the carbs and protein immediately. Still got 2.5 more marathon pounds to lose…
