Final results

The final results are in from the 5K. I came in 37th out of 139 (more folks than I thought), and 3rd in my age group (out of 7)! My first finish in the top three. Ofcourse, if there were actual prizes, all the super speedy folks would have shown up and spoiled it. :)

I’m darn happy with this race. Without getting ill, I know I could have run faster, but then again, there are so many things that hold you back in training, there’s always something that keeps you from being perfectly trained isn’t there? I think the goal is to run with what you have, and get as fit as you can despite the setbacks.

Onward now to more training. Tomorrow is stretch and strength. Tuesday’s run is going to be cancelled because we have the Cub Scout’s Blue and Gold banquet that night. Tonight I am making truffles for it, and I need to go early to set up chairs and stuff so no running. Just as well, because I still need more rest time for the lungs. Wednesday I run on the mill, and for some reason, I’m very excited about that. :)

I am always amazed at how race pace is always faster than the best I can manage in training. It must be the crowd moving me. Great for you on a good race.
I wouldn’t worry about coughing in the morning. It’s probably the body trying to get rid of whatever got unlodged during the night. (Yuck)

That’s absolutely great! (The race, not the phleghm)

The cubbies don’t know how good they’ve got it - handmade chocolates. Yum.

3rd in your age group … while sick .. that’s fantastic! Y’know, for the short while I was girl guides, all we ever got was Cheezies for our parties. I think Cheezies were the hip snack of the 70’s … lol.

outstanding! I like the saying, “run the race you’re give”… and given the cough, you still ran a most excellent race. out-freakin’-standing.

I meant to make truffles yesterday, but after my Half, who the hell was I kidding? I’ll do Valentine’s Day in March this year…

Excellent! Despite the illness you came out on top, you’re becoming quite the speedster.

Congrats on 3rd place!!! I finished third in a local 5k last spring and sheepishly accepted the medal (my time was that great), but it still felt good and put a nice bronze lining on the day.

I am suitably impressed, Jon! I wish I could run that fast while I ‘well’ much less while I was sick. Great race! I’m glad it turned out so well for you!

That’s an excellent time! Sounds like you took care of yourself, stayed positive, and your body rewarded you with a strong performance at the race. Congrats!

Congratulations! You should be proud of that finish. Now, if you’d only include the recipe for your famous truffles… :)

Jon - wow! You’re a contender! That’s so impressive. Sometimes, I take my times from the few races I’ve done, and try to figure where I’d line up on the results of *other* races. To see if I’d have a better shot in a different venue. Of course, top 3 is a pipedream I won’t indulge in. I always look to see if I’d come in the top 50%! - Mia

Way to go on the run! The truffle making sounds quite exciting to me…I’ve been on a chocolate binge since last wk. due to pre-Valentine’s Day and Valentine’s Day!

Since you’re such a chocolate lover, I just have to ask you–what do you think of carob? smile.
    Dare I ask?

Congrats! Awesome result - makes me wanna run faster too! I noticed yesterday that when you throw elbows back faster your run faster (got the idea from Chris) - simple but effective! It’s funny how small things count.
