Back to work
I finally made it back to work on Thursday. Oddly enough, bosses seem to expect you catch up on everything you missed by lunch time, so that you can continue working by the afternoon, no matter how long you were gone. Doin’ my best, boss. :)
So the half-flu vanished. I still have this annoying cough that apparently is not part of the half-flu because my disease carrying family also got it. They seem to get sick much more than me and almost always get sick first. Except for the half-flu. I had that joy alone.
My back is improving slowly. I’m going to physical therapy twice a week. “Shannon” gave me a bunch of stretches to do. Some of them are similar to ones I do now but the hold time is longer. Some are new. Some are downright embarassing and can only be done at home.
Shannon is very nice and gentle, which is good because I was afraid I’d get this 8′ tall amazon that would twist me until my bones broke. I know some it is going to be some tough stretching but I don’t want to be dreading it every time. Amazon she is not. Actually, she’s Canadian. :)
We spent the first day doing all kinds of bending and figuring out what hurt and what didn’t. Seems bending backwards is very painful. Bending forward is fine. My right hip is incredibly tight, and the hamstrings are too. Shannon said that was very common in runners. We have some very simple stretches for those. I was stretching them already but again, the hold time was not very long.
So after two sesssions, I’ve gotten at least 7 hours of sleep on one night and last night I got 10. Its amazing how much more awake and intelligible (sp?) I am when I’ve had some sleep. I can actually concentrate on what I am doing. No more napping at the desk. This morning I had some pain as I got up (after 10 hours), but I noticed now the pain is changing. Moving more to the right side, and much more specific in location.
I know this is kinda boring to read but I found my blog is an invaluable record for injuries and whatever, so its going to get a little full of very dull stuff.
I ran 3 miles on the mill last night. 8:30 pace. It my first run in over a week. I felt pretty good despite my lungs full of yuckies. I’m hoping they will clear themselves out pretty soon. I’m scheduled for 4 mils today but we have apuppet show at 11:00 so I’d need to be out there right now in order to get the run in. Uh, its cold. And yucky. And I think my shoes are cold. We’ll see. Friday’s run was supposed to take the place of Saturday in case I couldn’t make it out the door.
I missed Chocolate Friday again. Not off to a good start this year.
My weight this AM was 170.0 and I’ve been drinking water like crazy so I’m thinking its not dehydration. Maybe all that fever just needed ALOT of calories to burn away. Not exactly how I wanted to lose weight but I’ll take advantage of it if I can. Tomorrow is the last day but I’ll put up the chart today. Here’s the status of my goal:
My 10 day average never got to the 170 line, but its only a few pounds away. I’ll keep pushing to move it there, but I’ll also work hard this year to maintain my weight rather than let it creep back up again due to excessive snacking. Have a tendency to do that.
Hope you are all having a good run today. I’ve got a cub scout event outside today, with sledding! Wife says I need to bring a helmet.

Glad you’re feeling better Jon!!
Sledding sounds fun - try to avoid trees - if there is a tree anywhere near a sledding hill, I tend to smash into it. You might want to bring the sled with the airbag, just to be safe.

So glad you’re starting to feel better, and it sounds like you’re in good hands with the PT. Several of us with runner’s blogs have seemed to have gotten sick at around the same time. And I thought I was invincible … :-)

Glad you’re feeling better and thank goodness for the not-Amazon Canadian therapist. Take care.

My first glance at your weight chart made me think of my portfolio in January. I’d rather lose weight than my too close for comfort retirement days funds.
I am very happy to hear you logged such good sleep. That is as good as it gets. Everything is coming back together for you. Outstanding. Oh and please send Shannon down here after you’re done. I have this crick right here…..
