Is it Tuesday already? Which year?

I went to the MD today at the wife’s demand request. I’ve been ill these past couple days. I had a high fever and it went away (after I bought some tylenol that hadn’t expired in 8/02), but now my head feels all dizzy and I feel nautious if I am standing or sitting, or switching between the two. Looking at the computer is pretty awful too.

MD says I have no fluid build up or infection in my ears (I have no stuffiness or sinus congestion of any kind). Checked blood pressure standing and sitting, and it was 109/70, which is good according to her. So what’s my problem, Doc?

“You have the flu.”
“Huh? I don’t have the stiffling or sneezing or stuffyhead or running nose or watery eyes or nothing like that.”
“Yes, but you did get the fever and chills, and that’s part of it.”
“And now?”
“The dizzyness and nausea is another symptom that comes later.”
“Why don’t I have the other symptoms.”
“You are probably immune because of your high level of fitness.”

My high level of fitness? Say WHAT??! If I have a high level of fitness (so that I can eliminate flu symptoms like picking options on a new truck), then some of you out there could probably take a bullet in the chest before breakfast and still go out for a noontime run. Um, please do not attempt that.

I don’t get any of this. MD recommends no exercise at all for 4 days. That’s not hard to do today. Tomorrow? Well, we’ll see how I feel tomorrow. And I decided today (while staring at the paint on the ceiling) that I am putting a chin up bar in the basement, and getting some nice floor mats (ok, used gym mats from the ReUse Center) so I can do weights at home. That’s another goal for this year.

And my body weight? Well, try not eating (but drinking ALOT, yes drinking my fluids) much more than a bagel or two in four days and see what you weigh. Its amazing how fast your weight drops. I had hit a nasty plateau at 173.4 for the past 10 days, which is what I weighed on Sunday AM. But this morning I weighed 169.6. I’m not too worried because I know there’s plenty of water in my system, so I am not dehydrated. But damn, its scary to see a drop like that.

Today I ate a hamburger (Laura’s Lean Beef, 4% fat, no hormones, no anitbiotics, no toxic crap) and drank some pomagranate juice. I think Men’s Health recommended it. ;) Last night I ate a big bowl of grapes and fresh pineapple, and Sunday I had a bagel and a yogurt. I’m not really hungry, but I think if I eat I will feel better eventually. I think also my reflex is to avoid food when I feel nauseous, because normally it would mean something is wrong with my stomach. In this case it isn’t, so eating doesn’t make it worse and I have to kinda fight the reflex to avoid eating. Its stupid.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments on the last post. Sorry I haven’t responded to them yet. Special thanks to Mark at A Passion for Running (our Running Blogfather for the Running Blog Family) for spiffing up my blog page. Thanks, Mark!

Ok, that’s it for now. My eyes are dying and I need to go lie down until the room stops rocking. This is crazy. Its like being at sea………

eeeee. DH is very very sick right now, and with the half coming up in less than two weeks, I’m just crossing my fingers that I don’t catch it. Your recovery time is my only hope if I do, so look alive! - Mia

Jon - You called it in your last post! The Bubonic plague was a cousin-pandemic to the other bad plague… the INFLUENZA!
