Another visit to the MD
I went to see the MD today. It was the same guy I had the last time that did the 180 on me getting a bone scan. This time I asked more questions until he was running out the door trying to get away. He gave me a prescription for a pain killer/muscle relaxant which I really wasn’t looking for, but I may use tonight. I’m still getting between 3 and 6 hours of sleep before I have to get up from the pain. 6 hours if I’m exhausted already. 3 if I’ve had sleep the night before. Its stupid.
The one thing I really wanted was a referal to a back specialist. I didn’t get that but I did get one for 8 sessions of physical therapy, and that I think I can use. Exercises, massage, and other stuff. First appointment is next wednesday. The MD did mention that if there is no improvement after 6 sessions, we would look into a referal to a specialist. Then again, he’s said something similar before, so I’m not going to hold my breath.
Speaking of massage, I got a 15 minute chair massage at the gym last night, hoping for some back relief. I did feel better this AM, but by the end of the day, my back was killing me once again. The massage was very nice though. $1/minute and they charge to your gym account. Probably wouldn’t want one of those every day, but once in a while is nice.
Last night I ran 3 miles at my old 9:15 pace. HR in the 150’s, not much to say about that.
Tonight was supposed to be crosstraining but my wife didn’t feel well and wanted me to come home and help with the little one. OK. I’ll miss the crosstraining, but I tend to get grumpy when I miss my run. Maybe I need a bike or something in the house to use when I get stuck at home.

What is with all the drama when it comes to doctors lately?? So I have to ask - when you complain about your back, does he ever say to quit running? I’ve started experiencing some “stiffness” after runs in my lower back. I’m not going to quit running though. I was just curious. - Mia

Hope your back feels better soon! And now we’ve finally gotten our dog reined in - bought a “sensation harness” that lifts him off his front legs if he doesn’t mind me. You should have seen the look on the dog’s face when I did that the first time.
BTW, how much stretching do you do after your run? Quality stretching for about 20 minutes may help.

I went to a sports chiropractor when I first started running. He was great. Gave me some stretches to fix some things, checked my shoes and my running stride to see if all was working right. The biggest thing that causes me to ache more is the extra pounds I am carrying. But that’s me - it’s different for everyone. Gotta do what’s right for you.

Gosh, you’re hurting. I can feel it all the way down here. And lack of sleep only compounds it. I hope those muscle relaxers do the trick and get you some quality shut eye. You’re back must be inflamed. Are you taking any anti-inflammatories?
You sound so hurt I want to bend over and stretch my back in sympathy. You know, I should do that anyway. It’s good to do. I hoep you feel better when you wake up. Ditto for Mrs. In Michigan.
