Just a quick update
Thanks for all the great comments on my very lame post yesterday! :)
I actually got to do my 3 miles yesterday on the mill. I was supposed to do a “pace” run and for some reason set the pace at 8:40. Now, I don’t know why but my notes say I need 8:00 for the pace runs. Anyway, the 8:40 felt pretty good.
I set up traps for the mice last night before hitting the hay early (around 10pm).
WARNING!!! Skip the next paragraph if you are queemish, like mice, or are eating lasgna.
At 3AM I was woken up by the sound of some animal flailing around, caught in the trap. Somehow, the trap had not done its job quickly and the thing was just injured. I opened the attic door to find the trap sprung and the mouse standing there looking really badly torn up and all kinds of bloody. I closed the door and went back to bed. I guess I could have killed it right there but didn’t have the stomach for it at that hour. Felt a little guilty for injuring the thing and making it suffer. I hate having the the damn infested things in my house, but no need to make them suffer.
Woke up at 7:17 because I forgot to set the alarm, and I had to meet people from work at 7:30 to carpool today!!!! Run downstairs, rinse my hair under the faucet (to get rid of bed head), comb, put on clothes, grab a bagel, banana and water, run out the door carrying electric shaver to shave while driving. It was only 10 minutes from my house so I really lucked out.
I was only 5 minutes late (and nicely shaved too!).
I am so tired I almost fell asleep getting home today. I’m so glad its rest day today. 4 miles tomorrow, then 5 on sunday.
And by the way, I think the people who make Yaktrax need to send me some money now, according to my referrer logs. Check out Google’s search for them (about the 6th entry down). Maybe I like them too much. :)
Lastly, I want to mention that I get these food obsessions where I suddenly really like a food and can’t get enough of it. Here’s the list:
- Chocolate (wuhl, yeah)
- Quaker white cheddar cheese corn cakes
- poptarts (had this one in college and escaped since then, but it could come back if I’m not careful.
- Oberto beef jerky
- lime tic tacs (but you probably already knew that)
- grilled chicken
- Polly-O string cheese
The list could be longer but these are the biggies. Some bad stuff in there. Some not so bad. Just wanted to share a strangeness with you. There’s my commercial endorsement for the day. ;)
Ok, I’m so tired I want to die. Time for bed. See you in the AM.

Hilarious post today, Jon. Gross about the mouse, is it dead now?

I’ve had a thing for pop tarts lately too. Maybe they have some sort of subliminal messages in their commercials or something. I’ve had them for breakfast EVERYDAY this week and I usually NEVER eat them. Weird…

You know, leaving that mouse up there was a good idea because his agony set an example for any bruddas or sistas in the nieghborhood who might have seen the victim and scurried right on out of the house.
On the other hand have you considered the appeal of Oberto beef jerky to a mouse? or those corn cakes?
Stick to the nuts and raisins and they’ll go yuck and never come round here, no more no more.

I think if you want to teach the other mice a lesson, you should put the dead one’s head on a toothpick in your front yard. To keep them all away. - Mia

What mouse? Oh that’s the part I skipped:)

Isn’t mouse a dessert? As for mice, we had them in the fall thanks to a neighbor with a bad compost thingy that attracted them. We tried catch & release, they came back. Kept hiding in the dang fireplace. Hubby did the trap thing, caught 3, all gone! Catch em early cause they breed like wildfire. A friend didn’t and hate to say it he caught like 40 before he was done.
Oh well off to run in the cold and snow… :-)

Mmmmm…string cheese!
We had to deal with mice on our sun porch two months ago. That was *totally* Greg’s department. Unfortunately, I was the one who discovered the, um, “captured” critters (we had 2! Yikes!!)
I’m glad to say we’re now “all clear.” Good luck with yours. :)

Ew, I hate mice. I have all sorts of “trying to catch mice” stories but I know you don’t have all day.
A long time ago my parents were going through humane phase, so they bought glue traps so that they could catch the mice without killing them. But that plan backfired when one mouse got only one foot caught in the trap and dragged it all over the place throughout the night with me trapped on the bed trying to pinpoint where it was. Adn there was another time when my mom decided to sleep on the floor (b/c that what asian people like to do sometimes) and woke up with a mouse on her chest.
Good times.

String Cheese - I do not know how I missed it in the years between being a kid and having kids of my own, but now that it’s always in the house, I dig it the most! And it satisfys cravings for Chee-Toes.
Mice - So I’m like 14 years old, and I come home from school (latchkey kid, but only in high school) to find a mouse in the middle of the garage. I quick grab an empty paint can, drop it on top of the mouse, and have caught the critter. Then I think “Crap. I’ve caught a mouse. What the heck do I do with it?” I end up putting a brick on top of the can, going into the house, grabbing my .22 rifle (we lived in the sticks), and taking the poor critter out to the woodpile literally. I put the brick on the mouse’s tail, and dispatched him, gangland style, with a bullet to the back of the skull. Still feel bad about it.
