My ankle hurts

It hurts while I’m walking around. Outside, kinda around the front. I haven’t done anything except sit at my computer all day. I did go to lunch but I didn’t have anything that would hurt my ankle. I need some ice. Maybe some ibuprofin.

And the weather is getting worse too: Sunday: Overcast. High 61F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph.
Wind. I don’t like wind. I’m not sure I have the right clothes for wind.

Skipped the gym

Last night I skipped my crosstraining at the gym. I thought that extra rest was the best choice given how I feel. I’m still really tired from low sleep this week and this funny little c@ld that is trying to creep in. Fighting it every step of the way. I can be sick Sunday afternoon, but not before.

So, today is an official rest day, as is tomorrow, but I want to spend alot of time doing my stretches, particularly my calves. I don’t want everything to tighten up by Sunday. I also want a hot bath tonight to help loosen things up again too.

There’s something else too. My left foot and lower leg has been feeling kinda tingly. If I’m sitting or standing in one place, it feels, albeit very slightly, tingly. Like it had fallen asleep half an hour ago but now its just about ok. I’m not sure what to make of it. Just something more for me to be paranoid about before the race.

Current weahter status for Sunday: Cloudy. Highs in the low 60s and lows in the low 40s.

Need to find out how to get to the race too. I always thought the road to Hell would be obvious. ;)

Amber Alert

I was reading Tracy’s page this morning, where she made a post about an Amber Alert that has just come out. You can read it on the Code Amber Alert page. Looks like the father killed the boy’s mother and then took the kid to his relatives in Texas.

If you could pass it on via the web with the links to the Code Amber page, I’m sure it would help the situation.

Have you got ‘em?

Saw this truck in a restaurant parking lot recently. It says “F650″ on the side. I didn’t even know Ford made an F650. Note the aftermarket add-on directly below the trailer hitch. I think they are steel.

oh my

Sugar and caffeine!

I was still feeling a little yucky this AM. Tickly in the back of my throat and itchy nose. I drank the dreaded Odwalla echinacea drink on the way to work, and had hot black tea with gobs of raw honey before breakfast. Oddly enough, I couldn’t stop that shakey leg thing while sitting at my desk and typing. I think I had a little too much caffeine for Jon in the morning. Just jumpin’ out of my skin. Sugar and caffeine. Yum! :)

Tonight I am scheduled for 2 miles officially, but since I did 4 yesterday instead of the crosstraining, I’m going to do the crosstraining tonight, unless I just take an extra rest day because I’m not 100% well yet. I haven’t decided yet.

Finally registered for the Hell-o-ween. I asked the guy if he had alot of people signing up. “Oh yeah, uh, there’s a rush lately of a bunch of people.” Ha! Sounds like he’s bluffing! I think I’m the only one registered. My win is in the bag. Now, if they just don’t cancel because there’s only one runner…

Weather outlook: 58F, sun and clouds mix. Still looking good.

Question: Does anyone buy their shoes online? Where do you buy them?

My drive

Monday and today, while driving into work in the morning, I got stuck behind the same car. This guy drove 10 MPH under the speed limit the entire way, weaving in and out of the lane so bad, I thought he was going to crash into the cars coming our way.

This car has the rear trunk smashed in and the tail lights were all screwed up. The right tail light lens was busted so you got this bright white light in your face except when they hit the brakes.

The funny part was that the junk you see in the picture is not just on the rear window shelf. It fills the ENTIRE back seat area up to the level of the seats. Its also filling the dashboard and front passenger seat.

When I drove around to the side, I could see why he was weaving. He was reading a book! I just had to take a quick spycam pic to show the world, in case he crashes his car tomorrow.

PS
4 miles tonight and it was slow dragging. Left shin being a jerk (as usual). My throat tickles. Took my drugs, folic acid, and honey. Weather still looks good for Sunday.

Tired of the TV? Turn it off!

I don’t have a TV but sometimes I watch it at the gym. But have you ever been somewhere that the TV is blaring and you want to turn it off? Now you can!

TV B-Gone!

This little device, that looks like a keychain fob, is a universal remote control and can shut off most TV’s, and it costs only $14! So you can turn off those blaring TV’s in the bar without asking for the remote. Naturally, nobody is going to be using them in nasty ways.

Getting back to reality, how much fun do you think you can have with this next time you are anywhere that there is a TV turned on? :) You know all those big TV displays at Target? :) Ever wonder how many times the bartender will go and turn the TV back on before losing his cool and yelling at the customers? :) The list is endless.

What’s next?

The race is on Sunday and I’m already trying to plan ahead to calm my nerves.

I like to think about what I’m doing after the race so that I don’t begin to get tunnel vision about it and lose perspective. I don’t want to spend all day agonizing about it and wasting all my time doing google searches for marathons and running and injuries and stuff, hoping to get one last little bit of information that I need.

So what’s next?

Now that its getting colder, I may end up going indoors. I will probably spend 3-4 weeks recovering, using Higdon’s recovery plan. Its for a full marathon, but I’ll adapt it. I want to spend time making sure my shin splints have healed all the way again too.

Books. I want finish my ChiRunning book and begin the exercises in there. I want to start this running thing over again and reshape my running form so that its less prone to injury. I know the current one is, so changing it isn’t going to hurt anything.

I’m also going to look into barefoot running. This sounds so very cool. Aside from the theory that its better for your feet and legs, how cool would it be to run a 1/2 or full marathon in bare feet!

Those are just a few thoughts. Trying to relax before the race. 4 days to go. Extended weather forecast? Mostly sunny, high 58F, chance of rain 10%. So far, so good.

RSS/XML, a picture of me

I was just reading A Picture of Me, and C has posted a really nice explanation of how to read blogs via RSS. I haven’t got a clue about this stuff and was glad to see someone explain it for fools like me. While you’re there, you can check out her site. Lots of fun reading and she has a knack for entertaining writing.

I’m still at home this afternoon. Feeling better but still have the shaky feeling when you get ill. I actually made some tea. I don’t drink tea so I was glad to find the instructions on the box. Had to look up the word “steap”. I added alot of raw honey so it ended up being thicker than usual I think. And I read the bottle of yucky tasting Odwalla echinacea drink and found it has 250% of the USRDA of vitamin C. Uh, that’s enough for today, thankyou.

And y’know, after finishing my tea while writing this, I’m starting to feel better already. Maybe I will be able to do my 4 miles tonight. ;)

Not feeling so good

Ugh. Yesterday I had a funny tickle in the back of my throat. I also had this dull, stuffy feeling in my sinuses last night. I took some Claritin, because in the past I had taken that early when getting a co– (won’t say it yet), and it reduced the amount of congestion I got. Drank my yucky Odwalla echinacea fruit drink. Took extra folic acid. Went to bed early.

This morning I feel so groggy I want to go back to bed. I may just stay home today, or maybe until noon. I need to eat breakfast first though.

Please cross your fingers. I CANNOT get sick. Not now. Not after all this work. I’ll tell you what, I don’t care if I have a fever of 110F, I’m running in that damn race. But without being sick, my time might be a little better. I want to beat 2 hours. Not sure I can do that if I am ill.

Any sure fire remedies for that winter illness that begins with a c?
