What now?

If it isn’t one thing, its another.

Went out for my 6 mile run last night.  The weather had cooled down alot so I didn’t have to run in the heat.  Got stopped by a cop in the park for speeding.  Lovely.

About 1.5 miles into the run, I got this pain in my left knee.  Kinda like when you have a joint that’s about to do one of the those “pop” sounds.  But the pop didn’t come and it just kept hurting.  It wasn’t a really localized pain, but the whole knee, and it made my knee kind of give out as I ran.

I stopped and walked a bit, and it subsided after a few minutes.  So I started running again.  About a tenth of a mile later it came back.  Walked again.  Pain goes away.  Run, pain, walk.

I gave up.

Walked the last mile back to the truck in disgust.

No swelling this AM.  No bruising.  It starts to hurt when I go down stairs, and gets that painful weak feeling like its going to give out.

If it isn’t the damn shins, its something else.  Is this the new injury trying to tell me that my body is not designed for doing this?  Somebody is trying to drop a subtle hint.  How many long runs and weekday runs can I miss before this becomes a totally hopeless dream?  I think the ship to Chicago is pulling away from the dock.  Bon Voyage!

Oh well.

I’ll take today off (maybe) and then get back to my old workouts.  1 hour of cardio (aka crosstraining) with 2 days of lifting.  I need to lose some of the fat I’ve accumulated from the runner’s diet anyway.  I’m heading to the beach this summer and I’d hate to look worse than I did last year.
