Geocaching
Did my first geocache hunt. Can’t give many details at the moment but it was really cool to suddenly see it. It was also wierd to just read about it on the web and then find it sitting there in the woods, where its been for almost a year.
I was surprised that Ghostrunner was up to the challenge. You just need to plug in the coordinates and it tells you how far away you are. The maps get you close, GPS closer, and then you need to start using your eyes. The hints helped alot. The GPS does well when you are a long distance away but when you get within 30 feet, it starts getting confused. There have been alot of heavy clouds lately also, and alot of these things are in the woods, so the trees don’t help.
Looking at locations for other ones, I’ve been within 20 feet of several others in the past and didn’t even know they were there.
We went to the ones at the local MetroParks. I don’t want to give any spoilers on them but they are very nice caches, well hidden, but easy to find. Well, if its not too dark. The last one we found pretty late so we were lucky my wife spotted it. Picked up two coupons for the night. If we get the other 11 caches, we can turn them in for a free 2005 Metroparks parking pass.
Thanks, Zoot, for the idea!
