OK, so its ITBS, so what?

Friday, July 30th, 2004

Well, its not really a syndrome  yet.  My iliotibial band is irritated.  So I have ITBI.  But unlike with my shin splints, I’m going to work on fixing this WITHOUT running through it.  Hopefully this will not last long.
This advice on missing time due to injuries from Hal Higdon on Active.com:

What now?

Thursday, July 29th, 2004

If it isn’t one thing, its another.
Went out for my 6 mile run last night.  The weather had cooled down alot so I didn’t have to run in the heat.  Got stopped by a cop in the park for speeding.  Lovely.
About 1.5 miles into the run, I got this pain in my left knee.  Kinda [...]

3 miles nice and easy

Wednesday, July 28th, 2004

I ran 3 miles last night on the ‘mill.  I was still a little sore from the long run, but it went ok.  Feeling pretty good today as well.  My right shin is a little sore to walk on but it doesn’t really hurt when I run.  Must be the shoes :)
Tonight I need 6 [...]

Geocaching

Wednesday, July 28th, 2004

Did my first geocache hunt.  Can’t give many details at the moment but it was really cool to suddenly see it.  It was also wierd to just read about it on the web and then find it sitting there in the woods, where its been for almost a year.
I was surprised that Ghostrunner was [...]

A very tough 12 miles

Monday, July 26th, 2004

Saturday I did an hour of crosstraining instead of my long run, due to scheduling issues.  I ran my 12 mile long run yesterday.  Only the second time I’ve run that far.  Coming off a week of little running, and having missed the previous week’s long run due to the race, this was a very [...]

A view out back

Friday, July 23rd, 2004

A picture of my backyard.  I really like the way it looks in the morning.   This is actually looking diagonally across the yard.  The neighbor’s yard is off on the far left (you can’t quite see the electric fence), and both properties go back to that tallest group of trees.  Lots of space, with a significant amount [...]

Quote from Coach Higdon

Friday, July 23rd, 2004

“Maximize your training by doing it intelligently.”
If I could only figure out what intelligently means.  :)
Rest day today.  Legs feel pretty good although last night they had a really strange achey feeling to them.  Not painful but really uncomfortable.  Hard to describe.
Tomorrow I am scheduled for a 12 mile run.  After being [...]

Well that was interesting.

Thursday, July 22nd, 2004

OK, so no running involved for this exam.  Must have been for the “real” athletes.  It was like a regular clinic inside, but with rooms that had weight machines.  These two guys were there. One was the orthopedist for the Olympians (blue MD scrubs) and the other guy owned the orthotics place (business casual clothes) [...]

Runner’s injury clinic

Wednesday, July 21st, 2004

I’m heading off to the free clinic today to get my stride analyzed.  I need to bring my running shoes and I figured I would look stupid in work clothes so I brought running clothes too.  Unfortunately, I can’t find my running shorts.  Yes, I only have one good pair and yes I do wash them.  Sometimes.  [...]
