Into the home stretch!

Did my last long run of recovery training, and the last long run before the 5K. 4.0 miles at the gym. 3.0 on the treadmill and the last one on the track. I’ll be happy to get back to the long runs on the trail at the park. Indoors is good for conditioning and recovery, but the real training needs to be on a surface that you move over, not one the moves under you. (Although several physicists I know would say “What’s the difference?”) None of them run anyway.

My heart rate stayed under 153 for the treadmill miles and really only went above 150 in the last bit of it. Then I went to the track. I looked down about halfway through the last mile and my HR was 166. I guess running on the treadmill is easier than I thought. Total time was 39:50 for 4.0 miles, but the first three were 10:00 pace. A slight bit faster on the track. I’m not sure 10 seconds really makes much difference in one mile.

My legs felt pretty good. Very mild tiredness in my shins for the first 1/2 mile, then nothing. The last mile had my left hip feeling kinda tired. Maybe its just been a long week on weights and everything. Like Thursday’s run, I was tired starting out and I think an easy week is needed anyway. Next week is the same mileage total including the race. Not quite a setback, but a plateau can be restful too.
