Weights!
Posted By Jon in Michigan on April 24, 2004
Did weights today and kicked some butt at it too. Went up in everything and I can see it slowing now so I am definately maxing out the muscles on the workouts. I’m hoping the increased muscle strength in my legs will improve the running. I have to believe that higher leg muscle strength allows you to take each strike of your foot better.
An odd thing happens to me when I lift. I’ll do just fine for most of it but when I get near the end, I suddenly get really shakey and queezy inside. Like I want to lie down. I used to do three sets for each lift and I thought I was over doing it. I’m now doing one set to save some time (and because I am not interested in bulk at this point in my life), but I still get it near the end of the workout.
I wear my heart rate monitor now, because I thought my heart rate was getting too high while I lifted the bigger stuff. Nope. I think the highest I saw was 145 bpm.
The only thing that seems to prevent is to eat ALOT before I lift. I mean ALOT, like thanksgiving-too-much-food-can’t-waddle-my-belly-from-the-table kind of alot. Get it? ALOT. Then I’m ok. Then I have no issue. Otherwise – splat. I sometimes stop and rest a while and go get a power gel from my bag. It seems to help a little.
Wierd.
