My first run!

I haven’t done anything since…geez…I haven’t done a darn thing since I don’t know when. I didn’t get to do weights Wed because I ended up still feeling ill. Thursday something came up so I couldn’t get to the gym. So FINALLY I had had enough and I went to the park and RAN two miles.

It felt so good to finally be moving again. My left shin felt a little crampy. It started out without any soreness at all. I could feel it slowly starting again but the pain never increased. It just stayed kinda like a dull ache and then went away.

My son came with me and he rode his bike along side me. After the two miles I did a short cool down and then sat by the Huron River and let me leg soak in the cold water. It made for a convenient semi-ice pack. I walked the last mile back to the car. I had intermittant soreness but no searing pain like I always remembered.

Ice, elevation, ibuprofin when I got home.

I noticed if I lay on the floor after cooling down and stretching, and raise my feet up against a wall (so the blood goes to my head) my legs feel much better later. If I lay there until my feet start feeling cool, it seems to be just the right amount of time.

No pain this AM. Good sign. I’m headed to the gym for weights today. I need to start this up slowly again, but I also need to ramp up at a reasonable pace.

I was kinda surprised too that it was very easy. I figured I had lost so much fitness the past 4 weeks since the race, that running 2 miles would kill me. My pace was about race pace and I don’t think I was ever sweating at the end. Hmmmm. Maybe the biking doesn’t help keep up fitness levels (despite it killing my back and making my butt go numb).
