The doc says its shin splints.

Went to see my MD yesterday and she says its tibial osterotitus (or something like that). “Did you ever hear of shin splints? Well, that’s what you have.” Then I asked about a stress fracture and told her about the lump on the bone. She kinda frowned and pushed on it, which hurt like hell. Then she says “I’ll authorize an x-ray just to be sure, but I don’t think its a stress fracture.”
Drove about 1 mile away to Urgent Care and got my xray. The place was completely empty so no waiting in line. A small chat with the xray dude before laying down on the table and being bombarded with cancer-causing high energy electromagentic radiation. I got to look at the pics afterwards and damn if my fibula doesn’t look thin. I mean, I knew it was a thinner bone but you just don’t realize it until you see it. The thing is a foot long and thin like a couple of pencils. Its a wonder you don’t break your leg everytime you get kicked in the shins.
On the side view I could see two shadows right where the lump on my shin is. I tried to point it out and the guy immediately steered me away from it, talking about where the knee joint was and where he always sees people break stuff. These guys know exactly what to look for in the xray because they’ve had the training and they see more xrays than any doctors, but they aren’t allowed to discuss it with you. Silly.
So, a couple days for the “experts” at the hospital to look at it and then back to my MD for her to think about it. Then they call and say “everything’s OK”. Then I call back and say I want to talk about the xrays.
I want to get a copy too. To post on the web and show my son, who I know will think its cool. This is Dad’s leg when he was stil able to walk.
