Featured Web Site: Flocasts »
There is no television station dedicated to running, but take comfort in Flocasts, which is the next closest thing. The site features collegiate and elite-level races from the United States in their entirety. Flocasts also offers interviews that are almost too up close and personal, capturing athletes moments after their races. Among the races covered [...]
Video of the Week: Wildflower Editon »
In honor of how I will be spending my weekend I bring you a video about the Wildflower Triathlon. There is running at the end so I think it is fair game for this site. You can’t be a triathlete if you are not a runner.
This will be my first ever Olympic Distance [...]
Video of the Week: Steve Prefontaine »
In 1972 Steve Prefontaine set the American record in the 1972 5k (13:22.8) and was set to compete in the 1972 Olympic Games. The race shown in this video is the epitome of drive and determination. You can practically feel the lactic acid building up in your legs and your lungs as you watch [...]
Video of the Week: Great Finishes »
For most of us running on the track is a means to an end. We need a little more speed so we go run some repeat intervals. But for some of us, running on the track is the means to the ultimate end game—an Olympic medal. In the first case getting a [...]
In It for the Long Haul »
Apologies to those of you in the colder climates for last week’s “Spring has sprung” comment. I know some of you had to run in 30°F weather or slog your way through slush. It is warming up, though and it’s time to really start working on those training plans for the summer’s big [...]
YouTube Video: Dean Karnazes »
Today I give you a video of my bud Dean Karnazes.
Dean is by no means the only guy in the country who suffers from a certain version of lunacy that compels him to run in 100+ mile increments but he’s the only one I’ve met personally. For 2006 his shtick was to run 50 [...]
A Good Old Home Town Marathon »
f you’ve ever run a marathon what you probably experienced was a start that required separating people into corrals by time to make sure the start was staggered. You probably had to shuffle along for many yards and were probably passed and then passed others for a couple of miles. The water stations stretched for [...]
Video: Runners High »
You know the one about how if you fail to attend a meeting all tasks identified at that meeting are assigned to you? It has a cousin called, “Dis da man’s video choice and you get to pick them from now on.”
Actually, I am honored to have been invited to be your [...]
The Pose Method Way to Prevent and Treat Plantar Fasciitis »
CRNs very own Lee Miller recently wrote an excellent article on Plantar Fasciitis (PF) which I’d like to use as a starting point for today’s article. What prompted me to write on this subject is that lately I’ve noticed a few people (like our editor, Jeanne) suffering from PF.
Disclaimer: I’m not a doctor. In fact, [...]
Video Inspiration: Female Runner With A Message All Of Us Can Relate To »
More often than not, the videos I show here on Saturdays feature male runners. This is not by design. In fact, I often find it difficult to find videos featuring female runners. But today, I found an amazing little gem that brought me close to tears. The video features a young woman with the universal message that running is, for many of us, time where we can reflect on life and sort things out.
Video: Alan Webb’s High School World Record Mile »
Alan Webb is one of the great hopes for American distance running. In this video clip, he takes the field as a high schooler competing against established world-class athletes including such greats as Hicham El Guerrouj and astounds the world with a time of 3:53.43 in the mile – beating a high school world record previously set by Jim Ryun which had been unbroken for 36 years.
YouTube: More Team Hoyt (Rick and Dick) »
Our World’s Strongest Dad post from a few weeks ago continually brings people to CRN so we thought we’d feature two more video clips by this amazing dynamic duo. These two video clips are more documentary in nature than World’s Strongest Dad was. Are you ready to be inspired?
Team Hoyt: An Inspiring Story of [...]
Video: Running on Ice »
There are few tests of a runner’s technique better than running on ice. Being able to run on ice — especially at the speed shown in the clip below — demonstrates excellent balance and timing, and efficiency of form (i.e. by not slipping, energy is not wasted).
Dr. Nicholas Romanov (originator of the Pose Method of [...]
Video of One Very Stylin’ Barefoot Runner »
This video stars a fellow named ‘Yanni’ who is to be found in the Running Barefoot Yahoo Group. Yanni posted this very stylized video of himself running at night in London. This video is so cool we think anyone seeing it might just give barefoot running a try.

Video: Toronto Waterfront Marathon »
On Sunday, September 24th, we posted two articles related to the Toronto Waterfront Marathon:
Man Runs Sub-Three Hour Marathon While Juggling
75 Year-Old Ed Whitlock Runs Marathon in an Amazing 3 Hours 8 Minutes
Turns out one of CRNs very own writers ran the half marathon in Toronto that same day. Adeel finished in one hour twenty six [...]
Video: Children’s Learn to Run Program »
What you are about to see is a Children’s Learn to Run documentary filmed over a 10-week period at the school I taught at in Edmonton. During the 10 weeks, students were exposed to a variety of learn-to-run topics (see running program below video), and completed the program by participating in a Fun Run finale [...]
Via YouTube: World’s Strongest Dad »
It doesn’t get any more inspiring than this, folks! For your viewing amazement, here are Dick and Rick Hoyt. Note: This YouTube video may not be visible in bloglines or other feed readers.
Via YouTube: Legends of Running »
Although the quality of the video could be better, this is a tremendous compilation of some of the best male runners who ever laced ‘em up, engaged in some of the finest moments in running history (it would be great to find one of these featuring women runners).
You are about to witness clips of Steve [...]
