Photo of the Week: Three in a row »

Back in the day when I was good at running and high jump I always thought hurdles would be cool. But hurdles with water, now there’s a challenge. In this photo: Mike Boucher (leading), Tom Wade & Joe Wade at Bournemouth on June 2nd 2007. Thanks Mike for dropping by and leaving us that information. [...]

Photo of the Week: So What’s Your Excuse? »

Seem’s lately the topic is excuses so this week’s featured photo seems rather fitting.   • The alarm goes off, you shut if off, rollover and go back to sleep.       You skip your run.   • You look out the window and it’s pouring rain.       You skip your run. [...]

Photo of the Week: It’s raining, it’s pouring, did you run? »

So it’s a rainy day outside. Do you run or would you use it as an excuse to skip your workout or race? Looks like this runner found an interesting solution to get out there and go for it. The photo was taken during the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, 2008 National Cherry [...]

Photo of the Week: Reflections »

As one runs we often reflect on our lives, our goals, whatever or perhaps we are just reflections in the water. Which are you? Thanks Jeanne for letting us share this great photo with our readers. Jeanne by the way is a good friend that I have met through my running travels. For more great [...]

Photo of the Week: Celebrating Mother’s Day »

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms out there. So how did you spend yesterday? Did you phone your Mom, have dinner with her or buy her something special. In my family we choose to celebrate the day in a slightly different way as did some 14,000 other people in Calgary. We celebrated it by [...]

Thanks go to Basegreen for this photo. See more photos from his Flickr site over here. In an email from him, here’s what he had to say about this photo: I took the picture at the InterCounties Cross Country Championships, 2008. My partner was running in the event. I think the photo was for the [...]

Photo of the Week: Runners, Start Your Watches »

With so many techie gadgets for running, I’m sure this is a common scene at many races. So as you head out are you one of those runners hitting the start on your watch, Garmin or other gadget? I captured this photo during Sunday’s Calgary Police Half Marathon. I was there to run the 5k [...]

Photo of the Week: Winter Wonderland »

I don’t know about you but I’m about tired of running in snow for this winter. We got a dump of several cm this weekend. It’s been snowing pretty much nonstop since Friday. This morning when I headed out for my run it was -12C which is about 10F for my friends south of the [...]

Running skirts for women have become very popular in recent year. But skirts aren’t just for women. This photo was found on Totally Richard Johnson’s Flickr site and was taken during the Flora London Marathon 2008. By the way, this race took place just yesterday. You can read about it over here or here. Martin [...]

Photo of the Week: Chicken on the Run »

An interesting outfit, but I’m not sure I’d want to run in it for a number of reasons. But this “Chicken Runner” did so in the 2007 Chicago Marathon. Photo of the Week: Fast in Vancouver »

Every April, more than 50,000 people run the scenic 10k Vancouver Sun Run. I’d likely be lost somewhere in the back of that crowd, but I’m sure these speedy runners are at the head of the pack.

Photo of the Week: Paris in the spring »

Back in Sept 2006 I featured an excellent photo of the huge crowd running the Paris Marathon. The 42.2km route takes you from Champs Elysees Ave to Voche Ave and some where in there right past the Eiffel Tower. Interestingly enough the first Paris Marathon was held in July 1896 with 191 runners. This week’s featured photo was taken during the April 2007 Marathon where the crowd of runners was

Photo of the Week: How Cold is Too Cold? »

Are you a fairweather runner? If the temperatures dropped to below -30C or -22F would you still run? Well Saturday, 56 runners in Calgary did just that as they competed in the Nose Hill Cross Country 4/8k Race. The runners believe it or not, ranged in age from 6 to over 70. The great thing [...]
