YouTube Video: Dean Karnazes »
Today I give you a video of my bud Dean Karnazes. Dean is by no means the only guy in the country who suffers from a certain version of lunacy that compels him to run in 100+ mile increments but he’s the only one I’ve met personally. For 2006 his shtick was to run 50 [...]

You know the one about how if you fail to attend a meeting all tasks identified at that meeting are assigned to you? It has a cousin called, “Dis da man’s video choice and you get to pick them from now on.” Actually, I am honored to have been invited to be your Saturday Inspirational [...]
Video Inspiration: Female Runner With A Message All Of Us Can Relate To »
More often than not, the videos I show here on Saturdays feature male runners. This is not by design. In fact, I often find it difficult to find videos featuring female runners. But today, I found an amazing little gem that brought me close to tears. The video features a young woman with the universal message that running is, for many of us, time where we can reflect on life and sort things out.

Running Thoughts … »
What do YOU think about when you are running? I don’t know about you, but I don’t listen to music when I run alone so I end up either talking to myself or thinking. Running sure allows for time to do some great thinking and planning of my life. So I guess the question to ask would be “what do I think about?”

Streakers! »
A recent article by Mark right here on CompleteRunning.com got me to thinking about what it means to be a consistent runner. Those thoughts and a short excerpt in Runners World led me to this site: the United States Running Streak Association, Inc., which allows membership only to runners who have logged at least one mile every day for a period of time. Beansprout—you’re eligible—way to go!

Reflections on Running »
It’s the holiday season, and like most people at this time of year, a bit of reflection is in order. So here goes my 2 cents worth of introspection and reflection. Hi! I’m Lee and I’m a runner. Yes I’m addicted, and I’m not going to give it up! This is a (mostly) harmless addiction [...]
Runner Profile: Cathy Myers, Dallas, Texas »
I was very fortunate to run into a lady at my local running store who would end up being my mentor and coach through several marathons. Her name is Cathy Meyers and she will be running her 56th marathon this Sunday. The The Wellstone Dallas White Rock Marathon,Texas, also marks her 10-year anniversary of running. [...]
If You Had Only One Race in You … »
I’m prone to deep thinking at precisely the time I can ill afford it: When a major deadline draws near. So on the cusp of completing a big work project, I’m now wondering what it must be like to run a race that you know is your last. This thought comes courtesy of a man [...]
Embracing the Dark Side of the Force: How to Turn Exercise Into a Lifelong Habit »
Warning: This article is for people in a constant struggle to find the will to exercise. It may not be appealing if you are not one of those people, or if you are the type of person who prefers to focus only on the warm, fuzzy side of life. —————— The Jedi & You The [...]
Get Out the Door! »
I’m quite sure that there are people out there who never feel unmotivated or unexcited to get out there and pound the pavement. I’m also quite sure that I’m not one of those people. Don’t get me wrong, I love to run. I love the feeling I get when I’m done and I’ve accomplished my [...]
I Am a Runner »
Hi, my name’s Bill, and I’m a runner. I didn’t set out to be a runner, it just sort of happened. I thought, for many years, that I was a cyclist, caught somewhere in the grey space between man and machine, somehow transcending both to become some sort of cool, mech-human hybrid riding off into [...]
Via YouTube: Terry Fox »
If you don’t know the story of Terry Fox, you should. The night before his leg was amputated, Terry Fox read about an amputee who ran the New York City Marathon. The article inspired Terry’s Marathon of Hope, an incredible cross-Canada run on an artificial leg to raise money for cancer research. Terry’s story inspired [...]
DNF »
There are thousands of anxiety-riddled runners this month signed up for a marathon. Hundreds of them will not make it, to the start or to the finish. Some will become sick and say, “That’s it.” Some will be overwhelmed by conditions or personal turmoil and decide, “There’s just no way.” Still others will limp to [...]

Fall »
So, it appears that another fall is upon us. Fall, if I may be blunt, ROCKS. Straight up Kicks Tail and Takes Names, as far as running is concerned. Summer gets all the glory, winter gets all the tough cred, and spring gets all the beauty and joy, but for me, fall is the time [...]

Why Running Is the Best! »
For over last three years I have had a chronic knee injury which has limited me to running shorter distances (about 10 miles per week). This is quite a quite a decline for me as I was sometimes running more than 40 miles per week when I was training for marathons. Due to my knee [...]

I can’t imagine anyone not being impressed with Paula Radcliffe. She’s not only super talented, she’s super determined. As is depicted in this nifty video-montage, Paula came back after her defeat at the Greece Olympics with a vengeance and won in convincing fashion at New York and in London. Paula, if you happen upon this [...]

Why I’ll Never Marry a Runner »
When people learn I’m married, they’ll frequently ask if my husband runs too. My usual response: “Thank heavens, no.” Truth is, there’s only room for one runner in this relationship. We aren’t an athletically mismatched couple, as The New York Times outlined last week. He’s always taken physical fitness just as seriously as I do. [...]
I Was Married to a Lesbian (Not That There’s Anything Wrong With That) »
Whoever said running is boring has not had the privilege of running with some of the great people I have. Over the years I have run with many running groups and running partners. I used to be a group leader for a marathon training program organized by a local running store. Every Sunday I would [...]
How Do You Keep Running? »
When I first started running, 12 years ago, I ran one block. One block. Then I walked the rest of the mile I had routed out using the odometer on my car. I eventually worked myself up to completing that mile—at a pace of about 15 minutes per mile. At that rate, any dedicated walker [...]

Pass It On »
When I first started running, I made every mistake you can think of, and then some. I ran every workout too fast. I never took rest days, leading to the inevitable injuries. I ate right before I ran. And, most memorably, I ran my first half-marathon in cotton socks that became saturated halfway through the [...]
The End of the World (As You Know It) »
Now, I think I would be guilty of being a bit dramatic if I compared being diagnosed with a terminal illness to that of being stricken with a running injury. But with that noted, I have sustained a marathon ending knee injury and, for me, it sure felt like it was the end of the [...]

Chicks Rule! »
Something different is happening in the world of ultra running. In most sports, dare I say, all active sports, it is difficult or impossible for women to compete head-to-head with men. Do you think women will ever beat men in a cycling road race? Or maybe in the 200-meter dash? Differences surrounding lung capacity, muscle [...]
