Looking for an interesting and challenging marathon? You might want to check out the Great Wall Marathon in China. The video provided here is courtesy of Dr Ableson, who completed the marathon this year.
Thanks go to Dr Tarveen Ahluwalia DC for providing me with this wonderful video. Tarveen was a pacer in a recent running clinic I taught and is also a running clinic instructor, as well as a…

After my last article, I received several emails from readers about Aruba Sport sunglasses. I decided it merited a little research and it wasn’t long before I found out their home base is right here in my home town—Dallas, Texas. A few phone calls were exchanged and they invited me over to visit their facility. I’m so glad I went. It’s not often you get to see the good people…
“So what’s the plan?” This question was leveled at me after telling a patient that she may have a fracture in her knee after a fall. The problem was that she was training for an upcoming marathon and taking a complete sabbatical from training was not an option.
So what are an injured runner's options when you can’t run? The list is actually quite short, with deep water running, cycling, stair…

The Olympics are Underway
I can't begin to highlight all of the articles related to the Olympics. The printed media are full of articles related to the environmental conditions in Beijing. It's also difficult to keep up with last minute withdrawals and suspensions. There are three worth noting, however.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Mizuki Noguchi, who won the 2004 Olympic marathon, has withdrawn from Sunday's race with a thigh injury. World…
Our culture today is fascinated with celebrities. It is evidenced in the success of magazines like People and Us, in the growing popularity of celebrity gossip websites, and even in the reading habits of visitors to CRN. On the home page, you’ll notice one of our most popular articles is Mark's 25 Celebrity Marathon Runners. The post is so popular that it was even parodied a few weeks ago by…

Running may not be the best spectator sport, but compelling running makes for compelling viewing. In the YouTube age, we have greater access to running video than ever before.
Here are five that are definitely worth the few minutes it takes to watch.
Start off with this compilation of clips of some of the great distance races in track and field history. It's got Prefontaine, Liquori, Ryun – all the way…
A while ago, I became aware of a new buzzword doing the rounds on certain fitness web sites. These come and go, and I usually ignore them, but this one has stuck around for longer than usual.
It sounds great. HIIT (high-intensity interval training) is supposed to increase your fitness and burn your body fat faster than other fitness methods. For some reason, some of the proponents have started taking pot-shots…

Last weekend I ran a local 5k that was conventional in every way but one—the race began and finished in a cemetery.
Normally I would consider a run through a graveyard in July's sweltering heat an ill omen. But the temperature cooperated and there was plenty of shade. The only downside was, well, not wanting to stand around on the grass, if you know what I mean.
It got me to thinking…
