Which beeps louder the mat registering the chip or the start of the watches. I wonder.
I like not having a watch when I am not running. Why have one when I am running.

I have seen so many races start this way, but I saw a photo of me finishing my first half marathon and yep, as I went under the finish, I'm pressing the button on my watch. So, all of these folk who are pressing the start, will also press at the finish!

As much as I love gadgets, I don't always use them much.

I love my Garmin, but I really only use it to help me establish how long a particular route is. I've got an older, cheaper model, so it's not terribly useful for telling me what pace I'm running at any particular moment. It seems to be able to give me a decent average pace, but I know that I've never run the five minute mile that my Garmin claims for me.

I always time my runs, but I've never once done it in a race. My race strategy is usually something like: "Run as fast as you can. Keep running until you're done." I know that's not necessarily the best strategy, but it's what I've got.

I don't run with music, so that's one less running gadget in my life.
