Some called Paul Tergat’s record an impossible feat to eclipse. Well, Haile Gebrselassie has proven it wasn’t with a finish at the Berlin Marathon of 2:04:26!
After having set numerous other world records, this amazing accomplishment certainly solidifies Haile’s well deserved position at the very top of the world’s best ever distance runners. Congratulations Haile!

I watched the finish on German TV, what an amazing runner! In an interview he said two amazing things. 1) He apologized to the public for not running in 2:03 like he promised. 2) He apologized to the previous world record holder (and friend) Paul Tergat for dethroning him. Wow!
That’s the little man for you. Always has a smile on his face. What a champion he still is after all this time. What a range - former world indoor 1,500m champion to world marathon record holder…
[…] I know, Mark beat me to the headline but really, can you sing the praises of a 2:04:26 marathon finish too often? Not on a site called […]
He is the best runner I have ever seen!!! He always has hope and that made him one of the most succeful athletes of all time!!
