Video: Runners High
You know the one about how if you fail to attend a meeting all tasks identified at that meeting are assigned to you? It has a cousin called, “Dis da man’s video choice and you get to pick them from now on.”
Actually, I am honored to have been invited to be your Saturday Inspirational Running Video Master of Ceremonies.
While I was running the Kaiser Permanente Half Marathon in San Francisco last week, I saw my old Team in Training coach out on the course encouraging his runners to go the distance. I wanted to say hello but it had been years and I figured he wouldn’t recognize me. I was having a great race and didn’t want stop to make chit chat. I was destined to reconnect with him, though.
Later in the day, as I set about the task of finding a great clip for this week I bumped into a particularly potent movie trailer. This is a documentary about “Students Run Oakland,” a group that trains high schoolers for the Los Angeles marathon. Guess who inspires and coaches those kids? That’s right: the same guy. I can only imagine how many novices Coach Alphonzo has inspired to run 26.2 and live the thrill of crossing the finish line.
Ladies and Gentleman, I bring you this week’s “Runners High”:
