This year I even made it on time, without a short-cut, and did a few victory laps before unpacking my lefse to share with all the other Penguins. Last year I didn’t get to FBF until January 35th. Make room in the hot tub, Penguin buddies, I’m diving in! I made myself run up both the small and big hills, only walking for a bit at the top. There was only a little bit of ice, and the chinook wind blew 7C/45F air around me. If anyone would like to meet me there, I’m bringing Kahlua for the coffee and potato lefse rolled up with butter, cinnamon and sugar [...]

[...] ORN: Last night I started my annual January journey to Frostbite Falls by running and walking 5 km. I can hardly wait to get there and soak in the hot tub. Like Karen, I suspect the trip will be a little over 100kms (60 miles) away by foot but like last year I may look for a short cut near the end of the month. I’ve decided to travel light and I’m having Little Penguin Wines ship a couple of cases of wine - one red/one white to arrive when I do. If it gets there before me, save me a bottle of the white eh. I’ll pack up some different cheeses to bring along as well to go with the wine. To some people my journey to Frostbite Falls may seem like a stroll in the park. There are many, many people who have to travel much farther to get there than I do. To me, however, I see that 9000 yard swim down the Potomac as a breathless struggle against my own bad form and each step of the the 20 miles I’ll have to run as potentially causing a new and frustrating injury. When I do finally make it however, I’ll at least be among friends whom I know have each worked as hard (if not harder) than I have to get to this party. As for a time frame, I have no idea when I’ll be able to make it. I hope to be there by the 20th to fire up the grill and start catching a few fresh salmon to add to the feast. If it takes me a few days longer, so be it, but rest assured that I WILL be there!
